This item does exactly what you want. I just think for the price, a foam base or knee attachment would make this easier to use on the go.

Worth the money
It's a very well built practice pad, providing great feedback and playability. It's not very loud when played, so it's perfect for nighttime practice. The pad is also large enough to be played comfortably and small enough to fit in any backpack along with other stuff.

Silent, easy to carry, hard foam on the back gives a good grip if you are placing it on something instead of on a stand.
