Excellent kick drums and toms.
HarrySound, 01.07.2018
This SDX was the first to be released after the release of Superior Drummer 3.
The kick drums are instantly great without any processing or effects. The toms are also far better than anything in the Superior Drummer 3 core library.
It has a nice big but not distant ambiance to the kit piece making it perfect for big heavy loud rock tunes.
The snare drums may not be as meaty and full sounding as I would like. The tama bell brass sounds less than half as good as the core libraries Tama for example. They seem to be missing a lot of the bottom snare mics bite and rattle.
The Toontrack presets are great and it has a very convincing Metallica Black Album preset called LA 1991 which is a lot of fun to mess around with.
The bonus mono kit hasn?t been very useful thus far but within time I may find a use for it.
Overall it?s a great addition to your drum sounds and perfectly aimed at the big studio heavy rock sound.

Better than the core package
VVolverine, 04.01.2018
Actually, I'm not the reviewer, but here I have to make an exception. After I bought the upgrade to Superior Drummer 3, I was a bit disappointed. Not on the scale or the possibilities, but rather on the basic sound. Without dipping straight into the depths of SD3, the drums sound less direct and mass suitable for me than in the SD2. Well, maybe that's just a habit, I thought to myself.

With the teaser presets of Bob Rock in the SD3 Core package I could not do that much either, but that was more akin to my idea of ??rock drums and these presets are also very good in the overall mix. So what could be better than giving the Rock Foundry package a chance? I once looked at the individual sets on YouTube, and that convinced me. So ordered on a Saturday afternoon directly at Thoman, immediately downloaded, installed and tried.

In short, yes, the presets are better, much better than the ones in the Core package. Toontrack certainly tries to accommodate as many music styles as possible in the SD3, but the rock sector is a bit too short for me. With the rock foundry set, my need for rock drums is covered at first. Great kits and especially the presets of Toontrack should pay attention. The Bob Rock Kits are certainly not bad, but Toontrack proves that you know a lot about drums and you do not have to hide behind greats like Bob Rock. Who uses SD3 and wants to produce Rockdrums comes in my opinion not on this expansion package over.
