Utterly fantastic soprano! Didn’t expect that…
funkysoulmate, 16.07.2019
I used to own a soprano many years ago. So I'm not really new to this instrument.
I forgot how hard it was to play it in tune :)
Anyway, about the Thomann TSS-350. I was pleasantly surprised during the unboxing about how beautiful it looked.
All the important keys were wedged with cork inserts for protection during transport. It was wrapped in a soft synthetic cloth and in transparent plastic. So far, good signs.

After removing the cork wedges I noticed that the keys all worked smooth and accurate. No play whatsoever in the rods, absolutely none.
There were no leaks to be found! Mechanically it was in a very good condition.

There are however two issues that are not so great, but they don't affect the playability.
The ribbed construction at the top of the horn was bend a little upward the last 2 cm which shows some sloppy soldering work.
You would not see this on more expensive sax brands.
The key that operates the G pad was too short which results in an asymmetrical position of the key cup and hence the pad on the tone hole.
It's way off. The edge of the pad nearly touches the tone hole. But again, no leaks. It does not affect playability.

But, everything else on this horn is fantastic! It even plays in tune, as far as I can play a soprano in tune.

The sound is also very good, but that has more to do with the mouthpiece, read and the player.

What truly amazes me is the "bang for the buck" you get. I did some research first before ordering this sax and I was a little apprehensive before clicking the order button.
I didn't expect to get such a really good soprano for that kind of money. So thank you Thomann for delivering the goods as described and really fast too (2 days).

Great Value
JamesP, 24.01.2016
This is a great sounding instrument, and good value for money. However, despite being well made the mouthpiece and ligature provided are very poor quality and the reed hardly worked. It played out of tune at the octave and for some of the lower octave notes it proved very difficult to get a sound at all. Even a chipped Vandoren reed worked better!

Having read reviews on the quality of the mouthpiece I ordered a Yamaha 5C with the instrument, and have since also bought a very nice Vandoren ligature. These together with a box of Vandoren 2.5 reeds compliment the instrument well, and I wouldn't recommend the instrument without these 'upgrades'.

The instrument comes with 2 necks and I have only used the straight one as I can't get the curved neck to play in tune. The upper octave quite flat.

I have also experienced problems with the neck octave key. There was a very poor piece of cork on a part of the mechanism which controlled this and the notes from high A up have only worked since sticking the cork back on and making it slightly deeper.

Despite the above it is still a good instrument but beginners beware. It doesn't play well straight out the box!

Having played this sax for numerous hours and two gigs
15.12.2015
I think it is best to say that all Chinese sax copies will need a little bit of tweaking in the first few weeks of playing. The black plastic rollers were too stiff but is easily fixed. The od bit of cork may need relacing. Nothing a reasonably skilled diy
person could'nt manage. This instrument is a copy of Yanagisawa sax . And very good it is too. I have been looking a Bauhaus saxes and they charge a great deal more for there copies. So by and large I think this sax will last me a good many years. Since I am used to playing Yanis ( I play a Alto and Tenor ) I was missing the feel of real mother of pearl.
I got two sets of real peals from China for about £30 ( I have Chinese copy Alto ) . With care , a mini blow lamp/ cig lighter and some emery paper to tweak the shape of the oval pearls and some glue I removed the plastic pearls and replaced them with Real MoP. And what a difference it makes to the appearance. So now I have two very nice Chinese copy saxes . The sopano & Alto play beautifully and now look beautiful . The bronze looks really nice and with Vandoren M/P 's and 2.5 rico reeds both play as well as a Yani. The M/P that comes with the sax needs binning at the earliest opportunity. You have to be prepared to do a bit is dismantling to change the pearls but it is worth it if your up to it . Highly recommended soprano sax ( with tweaks ).

Thomann TSS-350 Soprano Saxophone
Jens876, 11.09.2013
I've been playing the Thomann TSS-350 Soprano Saxophone for a year.
Pros
For a beginner like me this sax has been a good choice. I think you get a lot for the money. Especially if you don't know how serious your playing will become, this sax is a good first instrument.
The sound is good and it plays in tune.
Cons
There were some problems with the sax that had to be fixed by my teacher. Firstly, one of the springs popped out of position when it was brand new and my teacher had to put it back for me. Secondly, the mouthpiece that came with the sax stopped working after five months and I had to buy a new one that cost 39EUR. Now everything works fine but without my teacher I would have been in trouble.
