My impressions two months after purchase
viola-newbie, 20.07.2018
I decided to write an honest review after owning and practicing on this instrument for about two months to help other aspiring violists to make a more informed decision about whether to buy the viola set or not. There's no denying that the set is dirt cheap, but the set is far from perfect as a budget option. The strings do not produce a warm, mellow viola sound in combination with the set's bow and rosin - the sound is loud and shrill. There were also some quality concerns right from the get-go: The pegs were rotating slightly as the strings weren't coiled neatly causing the viola to go out of tune fast, the bridge position was not ideal, and I actually had a faulty tail gut on my piece which snapped after a month of playing.. All of the shortcomings were easily fixable though.

That being said, after I spent some more money on a better quality carbon fiber bow, got a nice good quality set of Thomastik Spirocore strings on sale, and bought a quality brand dark rosin, the sound of the instrument just blossomed! I honestly could not believe how much better the instrument sounded after a few upgrades.

So, if you have a tight budget and still want to start learning on an inexpensive budget viola, I'd advice spending a little bit more money, get a better bow, toss the set's rosin in the bin, and change the strings on the instrument. You won't regret it as the change in sound will be drastic and all for the better. Considering the low price point of the set, an additional investment in a bow/rosin/strings will still be cheaper than the student quality sets in the next price bracket above 200¤.

A good investment for a student quality viola
21.09.2016
I use this viola is used in a community orchestra and it neets my needs. I am a professional folk musician making no attempt to label myself a classical musician, so this viola more than meets my needs. It is on the heavy side for a 16", but it sounds good tonally. I did lower the bridge 1mm on the C string side and 1.5 mm on the A side, although it would have been acceptable as it was. I also adjusted the soundpost buy moving it a bit center and back (I have repaired violin family instruments for 21 years). A great student level instrument with a good "second bow," and an acceptable case, though i may buy a case with a storage pocket for a shoulder rest so it can not be packed on top of the neck. Also miss having a music pocket outside.

Unglaublich!
Hauke B., 16.08.2016
Unglaublich, was ich für diesen Preis erhalten habe!
Schon beim Auspacken.
