A Real Bargain
johnm64, 02.03.2019
I was using a cheap usb condenser microphone which I was not totally satisfied with, being rather hollow sounding. So I wanted something better and saw this t.bone mb85 Beta microphone for not much more than I paid for the usb microphone. Bought with the Behringer U-Phoria umc22 audio interface the cost was only ¤80 for both. I can't compare it with the established mikes like the Shure SM58 because I've never used it. All I can say is that I was looking for a clear, natural sounding microphone for a good price and this perfectly fits the bill. It seems to me to be quite a professional microphone but either way, if you're looking for a quality microphone at a bargain price this microphone will be a very good option.

As for the characteristics at least for my voice when I eq through audacity I find that rolling off the bass slightly and increasing the treble produces the best sound for me. Actually the opposite of the usb I was using but I wouldn't say it is a particularly bassy microphone. It's quite balanced. I do have to push the gain up to 75% on the umc22, any higher and it starts clipping like crazy. It isn't the loudest, in fact I wish it was but audacity will raise the volume sufficiently for my needs. I just use it for voiceover on various audios I do.

So 5 stars for the price to performance ratio.

Quality Microphone
B Boy, 20.10.2017
Working in the radio sector in Ireland I have always been keep an eye out for a cost effective alternative to the sm58. The t.bone MB85 beta has blown me out of the water. With it's very rugged build, crisp sound and excellent price I think I have finally found my alternative.

I have used the t.bone MB85 beta in a wide number of instances. Live Music, Recording sessions, debates and social media video applications. In every instance the MB85 has preformed remarkably. I have and will continue to recommend this microphone my friends and colleagues.

AWESOME AWESOOOOMEEEE.
cheapsunglasses, 18.01.2018
I have never ever been so happy about anything ??on a budget?? like with this mic . This mic kick ass for real. You can record and get superb quality and use it for live show and theres absolutely no difference between MB85 and Shure SM 58 except awesome price for this baby.
Pros: Really good sound quality and feeling so good while using it because it is all metal and knowing that you cant even wait to buy another one right after first touch...
Cons: This maybe isnt right place but I will try to say it that I personally would like that it is a bit bigger but this mic is not small i repeat IT IS NOT SMALL and that is just my preference.

Thats it, in this moment Im placing order on another one and my suggestion is BUNDLE with stand and cable where you can save about 15% of total price rather than buying all separately.

:) So happy...

Perfect budget mic
Mo Z, 22.03.2019
Yes, they sound the same as the you know whats...

Only annoying thing is the XLR cable doesn't click in on all of them which leaves me a bit worries sometimes. For that reason I wouldn't recommend them as handheld mics, but on a stand that won't be an issue.

Positive surprise
ZuzDCruz, 19.02.2019
First i was sceptic about this microphone, because its really cheap, but i must say, that i am surprised in positive way about the sound. I recorded Cajon and Vocals and both sounded very good. Doesnt color the sound much and it is very pleasent sounding. Doesnt have the off-switch but that doesnt bother me. Its heavy and build quality is not bad at all.

Why wouldn't you LIVE?
Gearmode, 15.02.2019
A/B with a 58. A more clear sound with good balance and weight. Warmth is there. Proximity as expected. Rejection as expected. Rubber grip nice touch. Blue hue has nice look. It is the SM58 killer. No reason to buy those anymore.I will use Live, can't comment on uses beyond this. Probably one of the most universal mics you could own.

For this price this is the best
Timothy Budnik, 26.02.2019
Sound very good. Bright, penetrative, resistant to feedback. By the way there is a transformer inside. For this price, this is the best microphone. Recommend

Super Durable!
Super daddy, 25.05.2017
I use this together with by Bose L1 compact system for Acoustic show
It comes with a Box, it looks professional, it is made out of metal, is it durable, and it sounds good, is not that cheap mic sound, it comes close to the Shure 85

pros & cons
It like to comes with the box, it easy to pack up.

Comprehensibility
Most of use do not carry a PA system that good enought to tell what kind of mic it is using, In Tech wise, for talking Acousitc, it does it's job great.
Further information
If you buy this for sell, you could push it into higher price, it looks really decent

Don't even bother getting another SM58
markodarko, 11.01.2015
I've gigged with Shure SM58s my whole life. They're dependable, reliable, offer good feedback elimination, are built like tanks and, most importantly, sound great.

I bought this mic on reading reviews on Thomann by other users of SM58s and thought it was a little too good to be true, but, they're all correct. This is one fantastic microphone. I'll never buy another SM58 ever again.

Build-wise, I can't really feel or see any difference in quality between this and the Shure although time will tell how it survives on the road. To it's advantage though, it came in a great padded case whilst my Shures only came with thin vinyl pouches! So, from a gigging point of view they'll certainly be better protected in transit than the Shures unless you wrap your SM58s in bubble-wrap - as, er, I do.

Sound-wise, they are as good as the SM58, and that's all that really matters. I cannot for the life of me see how Thomann can sell these mics these cheaply. It's really an outstanding mic for the money - actually, not just "for the money". It's an outstanding mic. Full stop.

If you're looking to buy an SM58, just buy this instead. You won't be disappointed.

Great mic to rival leading brands
Andy King, 13.10.2017
Very robust and good quality mic. I?ve been using it on stage and it rivals a leading brand for both clarity and quality. Nothing negative about it - give it a try as a back-up mic or to mic up Instruments on stage. Handles vocals really well.

I'm in awe!
30.12.2014
I must have tried about 10 different mics for live vocals, from the very cheap ones to some expensive ones. I used to perform with a Shure SM58 as the perfect compromise between sound quality and feedback control. I've also used the Beta 58A, Shure's improved version of the 58, in my opinion it was too cold and sterile for male rock/folk vocals. The SM58 on the other hand was too muddy for my voice. I bought the MB85 Beta to use as a backup to my SM58. All I can say is the SM58 is gone and I'm planning to buy a second MB85 Beta! It's the perfect microphone for me, neither too muddy (SM58) nor too shrill (Beta 58A). Great value for money, too! I would definitely recommend this to a friend!

I wish it had switch option
Daniil K., 27.03.2016
I've been buying some microphones for our public rehershal studio recently, giving a shot to some unexpensive offers here at Thomann. In the end, we decided not to put this mic in the line of our basic equipment because some bands who come to us to play might be confused with the fact this mic doesn't have a switch to turn it off if they don't need it or as a ?panic? button when feedback is happening.

But man, this mic sounds really good!

I've basically decided to keep it as my own vocal mic I carry with me in my guitar bag, and I really like the sound, the feel and the looks. The handling noise is low, feedback resistance is good, the output is pretty hot. I find the sound very suitable for my voice with the mostly flat EQ.

Extremely good quality for this price range
j_j_er, 11.02.2019
Sound is good, build quality is great.
The only 'drawback' is that a large portion of 'finger taping' on the mics' body is picked up by the mic.

Martin Cieslar , 19.05.2018

Shure beater!
20.03.2015
I bought this Mic as a stop-gap to replace a Shure 58 and in the 3 years I've owned it I have never actually thought about replacing it! I actually prefer this mic to the classic Shure. There is a slightly different bass response, less muddy or something and I find this mic suits my voice quite well. I was totally surprised by this mic! At some point I'll buy another one of these as a spare but the build quality of this mic means I probably won't be replacing it anytime soon! It has taken a few knocks but has never let me down!

Top Class Mic
Oli UK, 21.05.2017
Excellent mic for a low price. Nice round and clean sound, not too thin not too thick. Doesn't require that much gain for a dynamic mic. Great for vocals and amps and even far-micing an acoustic guitar.

Feels really weighty and solid.

I imagine this will be a staple in my studio for years to come every bit as good as any Shure alternative. A classic in the making.

Very close to a Shure Beta 58a
06.06.2014
I have had a few of these. And I have used them along side Shure SM58s and Beta 58a. The sound quality is better than the SM58 and very close to the Beta58a. You won't go wrong with these mics.

same as original (85) only cheaper!
13.10.2016
Wow, just wow. this mic rules. highs, lows, mids, everything is there. it's quiet, it's responsive, it's amazing. price point is insane for it's quality. it's built like a tank (like original), feels premium. as i've said sounds amazing, you can't miss with this mic, it is the fender of vocal mics, fits into everything like cameleon. use it for vocals, instruments, whatever. great amazing mic!

great little mic
Stephen5221, 15.11.2017
would like to keep these a secret but that wouldn't be fair, superb vocal mic with nice handle able feel, almost indistinguishable from better known beta , I've added these to my hire stock ,they have a nice clean crispness without loosing the warmth expected from a quality mic but without the expense associated with many others, Snobbery convinces many to only use other brands .. so be it but these don't disappoint .
