Low budget with sound and good price

Bastian D., 13.10.2009

Der Klang(ohne EQ):

First impression:

Neatly processed "plastic bucket" - no sharp edges, solid housing
HT and TT are properly protected
The amplifier unit is designed in a clear manner
The front and rear halves of the plastic housing snap together when you place the housing on the front or rear half -da would probably have done a bit of tape! -> but does not fall during the operation
The XLR connections are not original and have no locking but surprisingly well worked and usable
The cold plug connection is however very wobbly and you have to be partly afraid that the plug slips out, but what has not yet happened (about 20 events until now)

Handling:

The loudspeaker only has a handle on one side, which can be a hindrance when lifting on a tripod or carrying it! Especially with the active version, which is not so easy.
On a tripod is the box by the rear amplifier built-in amplifier the box a little backwards and does not radiate directly forward. It is only a few degrees, but you can still recognize it when you stand next to it.

The sound (without EQ):

The woofer sounds for a 12 "it very deep and you can run it thus actually well Fullrage!
The tweeter is unfortunately a little too noisy designed and you have to adjust this usually a little down, which with the active version is no problem
The biggest drawback in the tweeter is the horn, which radiates very narrowly!
If you want to work with it outside and have to rely on wind, the high tone is very distorted (flager-sound-like) rotatable, the horn is not!

However, my subjective overall sound impression is very positive as long as the loudspeaker is not forced to its limits. At a higher level, the loudspeaker will sound quickly and is overstrained

Amplifier Unit:
The service is self-explanatory and very clear
Also, the bass and treble controls do what you expect from Him
The lowcut switch is also easily accessible.
The microphone / line switch is recessed and can not be reached without a sharp object, which is not always conducive but for the lay / rental security is relatively good!

Conclusion:
The single handle is unfortunately an absolute mis-design!
The horn, too narrow, is a further minus point
In terms of the level of sound, there is a lot of noise coming out of the box - especially when the low-cut is switched on.
Sound-proofed loudspeaker with excellent price-performance-ratio with which one also times fullrange can work.
The loudspeaker has long paid off particularly for speech sounding

Definitely a purchase recommendation!

For so little money ....

sleepy, 15.10.2009
For so little money you get quite a lot - I had to determine.

2 These boxes were my first PA system. You get here for just 500 euro nevertheless a system, which one only have to connect to a mixing console. The sound must also be seen in relation to this price.

To the sound:
The sound is quite pleasant, which is partly due to the fact that an altitude drop starts very early. Thus, areas that are often very difficult to reproduce are simply blurred. Unfortunately, there is also a lack of openness. Only when the box has to get louder, it also goes into a somewhat more aggressive sound. The fullranability is conditional. Frequencies in the kicking area gives the box still quite sovereign again, but it ceases. For language, background music and small parties is however completely sufficient. The sound leaves something of a lack of precision (which can be attributed to a somewhat bad impulse response), but everything is kept within limits, so that the box can be used well in the low-budget area. Now the price comes into play and in these regions there is little (if any) better.

Sound pressure:
The stated 120 db are very conservative. The box can also be quite noisy, especially in the top section operation. Correspondingly in the bass supplements, you can also use them for concerts, if the sound requirements are not quite so high.

Handling:
The weight is very acceptable, even if there are already significantly lighter boxes. However, only one transport handle is available, which makes the box then again somewhat unwieldy. The box on the one handle to wear is rather unpleasant over longer distances, so that then usually but bass reflex openings and floor as a carrying aid. The missing 2nd handle is a pity, but still painful, as you can still do with the box everything you could with 2 handles.

Monitor operation:
The included box feet are unfortunately not an optimal solution. They go very hard in the guides and the gummiring goes very fast. Tip: instead of the rubber banding some fabric tape around the foot make and it sits perfectly. Unfortunately, the monitor feet also break off quite quickly. You should definitely have a replacement.

Further notes:
The XLR jacks are not lockable. The plugs are relatively loosely in the sockets and have me already slipped out in the Monitorbetrieb. This is really very very annoying and unfortunately diminishes the price for the price but quite good overall, just because the boxes run with me often in the monitor operation.

Meanwhile, I have a very high-quality PA system, but the The Box at least as often go out. So monitor they are really acceptable and so far, no band has complained. Also for simple language soundings, if one does not want to build the large system, I can recommend the boxes only if the requirements (and / or budget) are not all too high.

In general you have to hold on: you get here for a very low price acceptable quality. Less I would not synonymous in any case as an entry-set to spend. With a few tricks (fabric tape) one gets the box once more practical.
