Tech 21 SansAmp PSA 2.0 Preamp Pedal

I use it in conjunction with my amplifier, the Roland Cube Street ex. I connect a mono output from this amp to the "line in" input of the pedal, and then I connect the "line out" of the pedal to one of my Scarlet Focusrite 212 interface inputs. As the sound goes into the computer to a music software, I can hear it through my headphones (they are connected to the Focusite), and as I adjust the volume levels of the sound coming into the software, I start to tweak the various settings on the pedal: drive, crunch, punch, buzz, level... etc until I have got a sound that interests me. What this pedal does is it increases the volume and sustain of the sound coming from my electric guitar - which is already amplified through to the amp - and determines the quality and amount of distortion of that sound. The distortion from the pedal sounds better than the distortion which comes out straight form my amp. I use it mainly when I need to solo with my guitar, on the single notes, to have more sustain, clarity and cleanness. When I strum it's OK, but I usually lower the volume of the recording of the strums compared to the recording of single notes. You have also to adjust the equalizer because the sound can get a bit too high in frequency with this pedal, but it's a good way of creating interesting sounds for your guitar, I recommend it to those who don't have a really good and expensive amplifier like those Marshalls, and want more possibilities with their sounds.

Ich hatte vor zig Jahren den SansAmp PSA als Rackmodul und habe einige Jahre gut damit gearbeitet. Daher war ich sehr gespannt, was in der kleinen Dose zu drin ist. Also für mich ist das Teil schon allein wegen seiner "Winzigkeit" nicht zu gebrauchen und ich betrachte es eher im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes als "Spielzeug". Zunächst muss man sagen, dass alle Features wie vom Rackmodul gewohnt, an Bord sind. Mit den winzigen Potis und Tastern aber komme ich ebenso wenig klar wie mit den drei Fußtastern. Auch vom Sound her habe ich da meine Probleme. Ich habe lange nachgedacht, ob ich den Sound nur deshalb nicht ernst nehme, weil das Ding so winzig ist. Nein, das ist es nicht. Die 50 Werkspresets klingen an meinem gesamten Equipment dünn und extrem höhenlastig, das kann auch die Speakersimulation mit dem EQ nicht ausgleichen. Die Amps zum Test waren ein Mesa Boogie Express, Ein Marshall DSL und ein Fender Princeton. Der Sound war immer dünn und blechern, ganz egal ob der Sansamp am AMP Input oder im Effekt Loop war oder direkt in das Pult gespielt wurde. Sowohl der Amp als auch der Mischerzug waren natürlich in Neutralstellung, im Effektloop spielt das keine Rolle. Als ging es ran an die Presets, und ich habe mal einige "aufbereitet". Nach vielen Änderungen und viel Zeitaufwand war dann der Sound doch ganz brauchbar. Die vielgepriesene Rauscharmut konnte ich in Verbindung mit meinen Amps nicht bestätigen, je nach Preset (Overdrive etc.) kam es zu einem beträchtlichen Rauschen. Das stelle ich bei meinen Bodentretern, meistens von Mad Professor, nicht annähernd in dem Maße fest. Was noch störend ist: bastelt man sich cleane Sounds, so muss man den Level für den Output fast ganz aufdrehen. Bei Overdrive Sounds kann man ihn gar nicht so weit zurück nehmen, wie es notwendig wäre. Das war beim SansAmp auch schon früher das Problem. Es liegt daran, dass die Tone Regler nicht nur EQ machen, sondern auch immer Einfluss auf den Drive haben, obwohl es dafür einen eigenen Regler gäbe. Man erhält so immer Lautstärkensprünge, die man kaum ausgleichen kann. Die Bass Presets habe ich nicht ausprobiert, ich persönlich fand die auch schon früher für nicht so geeignet, dafür gab es ja einen eigenen SansAmp für Bass. Wie auch immer, der Plan, mein Pedal Board dramatisch aufzuräumen und mich von einigen Pedalen zu trennen, geht leider nicht auf. Reumütig behielt ich meine doch geliebten Pedale von Mad Professor. Ich werde den SansAmp daher leider wieder zurücksenden. Für mich jedenfalls ungeeignet (oder andersrum: ich bin nicht für den SansAmp geeignet).

Acheté il y a une semaine, il est installé sur mon pedalboard en amont de mon Nova system.
C'est exactement ce que je cherchais : le traitement du son analogique, le numérique pour le stockage et le Midi pour le pilotage.
Le son est au rendez vous et les potard très réactifs permettent de sculpter le son de façon naturelle, comme sur un ampli.
De plus le bypass est vraiment transparent, à mon oreille en tous cas.
