After a long time, I bought these Octobans. The price seems initially very high for "only" two small drums, as it turned out it was worth the investment however.
The sound of the octobans is very good, but hard to describe, since you can not compare these with toms or similar. Because of their short, precise, crisp sound, one can set very accents with Tom's grooves, without ever having to resort to the snaredrum. It must be said, however, that the use must be practiced, since this dry sound is not always appropriate. So the Octobans are a very nice toy for more experimental musicians (in my opinion, for almost all musical genres, too.) I am, for example, Melodic-Death-Metal), but you have to invest time to make sense. Furthermore the drums with a diameter of only 6 "are a nice target exercise: D. The included skins are thin and clear, thus giving the desired crisp sound. If you want to get a warmer sound, you could also try two-layer skins. The only drawback to the shipped furs is that even after a few times replayed printed faded blurs, however, this is only a small (for the audience not visible) beauty thing. In the meantime, I am remo Emperor clear, which can be tuned much lower and sound warmer. I can also imagine coated skins extremely interesting, I've tried but never.
The processing is extremely robust. The plastic tubes make a very stable impression, the skins keep the mood stable despite strong temperature fluctuations in our pro space. The included stand I see something as a problem. Although it is really extremely stable, no question, but in my opinion very inflexible desingt. It can only be adjusted in height by means of a telescopic rod, which is, of course, more stable and less expensive than two telescoping rods. But, especially because of the joint with which one the angle adjusts again about 50 cm rod come, the stand is too high. Even at the lowest setting, the octobans would be about the height of my (admittedly not very high-hanging basins). I myself use a drumrack, which makes the thing synonymous not necessarily easier. For this I pulled the pull-out bar from the stand (which was not a problem). Still, I had big problems integrating the Octobans into the set, because this arm simply has a joint for 2 drums. It is really very difficult to describe how I have solved the problem at the end, but it is definitely unsatisfactory. I am of the opinion that if you had used instead of these special attachments very normal standard Tomhalterungen, it would not be much more expensive (if not cheaper, because you do not have to make any special), and every drummer could be if Dissatisfied with the supplied stand is still Tomhalterungen nachkaufen and these then really completely arbitrary to the drums build.
All in all, you get very good quality at an expensive but in my opinion still reasonable price.
