What a pity!

11.09.2016
Live and in the Proberaum I play a Roland RD-700 piano with an M-Audio Keystation 88 ES as "2nd Manual". Because the M-Audio unfortunately can not get an aftertouch and I also the excessive keyboardsplitterei long time on the biscuit, I was looking for an additional "small" masterkeyboard with 49 keys, Aftertouch and connection for 2 pedals. Since then, despite the huge amount of master keyboards on the market, the selection was not so great. In the end, I ended up at Swissonic.

In advance I would like to say: EIGENTLICH the thing could be a really good Masterkeyboard. Unfortunately, however, much potential is given away.

The equipment meets the standard for DAW controller keyboards and leaves nothing to be desired. I particularly like the LED indicators on the rotary and sliding knobs. There you know, where one or the parameters stands ...

The solid aluminum housing also plays a positive role. At all, there is not much to complain about in terms of processing in terms of price, only the partial sharp cast burrs on the keys fall out of the frame negatively.

What is really annoying, are the used push buttons. They are tidy and have a very good mechanical pressure point. Unfortunately, the electrical contact point does not have much to do. One presses, one clicks, one thinks, one has switched, but it often happens: Nix! Or: Press once, twice (and then over the desired value). Aftertouch of a different kind ...

And with that I am unfortunately finally with the meckern.

By far the strongest criticism:
The firmware (with me it is the V1.17, maybe there is now something newer). In two simple words summarized: SO NOT! Unbalanced, illogical, inconsistent, user-friendly. And partly does not simply do what she claims to do. What eg really annoys:
If you have changed a parameter in the depths of the submenus, you do not return step by step to higher menu layers, but before you choose "save", you will be back to the beginning and have to go through all submenus for the next parameter . Argh !!! Or you do not store. The result is the same except for the difference that the parameter change has thus disappeared in the nirvana ...
Other Klopper:
The firmware claims to provide several dynamic characteristics, which can also be selected in the menu. "Normal", "Hard", "Soft" and "Fixed". Problem is only: In reality happens in this case - nix! No change can be detected. Always the same dynamic, even if the dynamic is set to "fixed"! Did the programmer look at the clock and found out that the event is ending?

One could enumerate a lot. But this is not the purpose of this review. Really, dear Thomann: Give us a functioning, logically revised firmware update and you can already alone with the whole note at least one whole starchen aufhübschen! I am willing to contribute constructively!

Last criticism is the hypersensible aftertouch, which is already triggered by a somewhat firmer "Touch" (without "After"!) And and very "narrow-band" reacts, ie very badly dosage.

A pity, a pity, there is a lot of potential of a conceptually really good product is given away and I believe that your Chinese on future editions could do much better!

Costaud but not flexible enough to program

deejef, 24.10.2015
Keypad of good quality, semi pleasant heavy touch and reactive.
It makes its weight and seems very robust because mainly metal.
Damage the modulation wheel does not follow the MIDI channel of the keyboard, it has a fixed setting.
The aftertouch is not assignable to a midi controller, only channel pressure.
The knobs and faders are ok. The pads are very reactive and can be parameterized at will.
I would have liked an alphadial to enter the parameters otherwise than the value keys.
In short a very good value for money anyway!
