Tries to be a little too clever
Doctor Fuzz, 11.04.2020
For some, this might be the perfect delay - but for me, it came up short on some simple things.

It tries to pack a lot into its digital features. While these are confusing at first, they're not too hard to learn though I couldn't help think that they could have been handled more simply.

While the sound itself can be beautiful when set right - an awesome slapback and perfect "Gilmore" long solo delay - it has its quirks. It can never really punch through a mix on the longer settings as the tone also tapers when set to long. Not in that the repeats darken, (which an analogue delay should) but that the immediate echo is muffled the longer you have the repeats. It could work for you, but then when you slide round to slapback on a preset (great feature, btw) and you suddenly need to adjust the tone nob - which doesn't get included in the preset settings - because the immediate repeat is as bright as a digital delay! Balancing settings like this with a mix that brings the dry signal down past 12 o'clock and a level control to compensate and switching preset still means you're bending down to the pedal to adjust to the changes - that makes me feel the presets are rendered obsolete.

My main problem, however, has been that it's seemingly very picky with its power source. I set it up on a Strymon Ojai. The pedal's rated for 9v 300ma and the Ojai puts out 9v 500ma - so things should be perfect. but they weren't. The pedal seemed to sag on all of its features - shorter delays, grainy repeats and weak mix. Plugged into its own power supply, one that was underrated, it came to life! But it didn't last long as the 200ma weren't enough to keep it happy all day.

So overall, it seems a lot of thought went into the digital control features, but a few analogue basics went under the radar.
