Great Powersoak

funrue, 17.01.2011
I can not fully share the euphoria of "prejudice" in boxing simulation. I'm a blues rocker, playing over a JTM45 with orange and vox boxes, with Blue Bulldog's. This combination taken over a Shure SM57LC still surpasses any possible simulation by far. This may be different in the Marshall boxes on which the simulation is based, certainly also dependent on the PA behind it, I would just like to reflect my experience with MY equipment and it is a pity that in the previous evaluations this essential aspect was omitted. I've got myself a weekend and the optimal micro-positions determined, whereby I have depending on the desired sound character (eg to adapt to the Raumakustik or the existing PA) different colored thin threads in the string, so that I am here at the soundcheck Minimal effort for the optimal microphone positioning, times as a tip.

I bought the Cabulator primarily as Powersoak, and here he does an excellent job. I previously had a "competitor", which - without naming a name - marked its impedance in color, and which quickly took the path all eBays, as dynamism and brilliance were lost even with low power reduction. The Cabulator differs significantly. Even with a high performance reduction, the dynamics and brilliance of my JTM45 remain fully preserved, the "sweet spot" is wonderfully controllable even at reduced volume. When reducing to "bedroom level" breaks the Cabulator however a little, which is also because of the fact that the box probably no longer with sufficient achievement is fired.

My conclusion:
As a DI box, the Cabulator represents a certainly good solution for the one whose sound taste he meets. A test and comparison with his own equipment is always worthwhile, but I do not see the effort regarding a microphone pickup is a serious advantage. As a Powersoak the device is second to none, the dynamics and brilliance of the connected amplifier remain unchanged except at maximum reduction. With this elegant box, SPL has solved the physical tasks with bravura, which justifies the award of the full score.

An ideal solution for guitarists

AlainN, 31.05.2011
The product is very well designed, built like a tanck!
True it is expensive, but hey, a pair of timpans costs more ...
There is no need to have a speaker connected to use the DI output on the sound card for recording. So recording sound in total silence. The knob on the left controls the level of attenuation with a continuous change. The switch toggles and the knob on the right control the cabinet simulation.
Both toggles are for a vintage or modern sound and the other open or firm baffle. The knob controls the volume but rather the 'amplitude' and the size of the baffle. Smaller values ??correspond to a 1x12 baffle and the maximum value is a 4x12.
The problem with this kind of device, certainly here the quality is to go, it is the dynamics that has a little less rendering
