Upgrade to SPL GainStation has paid off

ReinhardF, 24.06.2016
For a few years now, I have been using the SPL GainStation with a built-in converter (the previous model of the AD Converter 1090) to achieve significantly better results than on the analogue path to my interface (TC-Konnekt) and conversion. The internal converter in the GainStation is for me the primary AD converter and synonymous for line signals, which do not run through the preamp of the GainStation, but I over the 2th converter input on the back of the GainStation quasi directly Into the converter card.
So I decided recently to upgrade the current converter card SPL / 192 AD Converter 1090 - with very gratifying result: although I do not use the higher possible sample frequency in any way, but continue with 48KHz, the sound has for me Noticeable in naturalness (round and better elevation resolution).
Conclusion: If you use the internal converter card in its SPL devices not only sporadically, should think about the exchange with the new converter.
The old converter card was already quite good (straight comparison of usual homerecording interfaces) but the new card sets as a very gratifying "schippe" on top of it.

The only downside: More than ever, I have to guess that my interface significantly degrades the high quality level I now have on the input side to the computer, on the output side on the way to the boxes and the headphone. On a new better interface probably foreseeable probably no way past.

PS
Note for SPL GainStation owners: While the exchange with the other SPL devices (eg Goldmike) is very easy and fast, one must disassemble the gain station rather far apart. If you are not familiar with the interiors of electronic devices, you should leave it to a specialist workshop.

Perfect up to 96khz, not sync with a RME 9632

20.03.2017
Sending by Thomann:
I first received a first Converter 1090 card obviously from B-stock when I ordered a new one (torn / open anti-static packaging, traces of use / dirt, serial numbers on the card and The different packaging ... so a little mess before the shipment ...). Sav very nice but wanting that I keep it with a discount rather than send me a 'real' new ... Back. Then another reference which is it arrived in a plastic bag, this time to zip (style freezing) ... How to know if it is still B-stock or new!? ... Good !

The Converter 1090:
Delivered with a piece of metal, screws, to be able to adapt it on different SPL, some pages of manual.

Mounting:
Mounted in 30 seconds in the ass of an SPL Goldmike MK2, it is enough to unscrew the two screws of the plate which closes the door of the latter, to broach the card, then screw it.

Use :
Bought to leave a Goldmike MK2 in digital / optical to my RME 9632 sound card, in a PC.
The SPL also has an IN and a coaxial OUT. The IN is used for synchronization beyond 96khz. Up to 96, two pushbuttons serve one to select 44.1 or 48, and the other to double those values.
A yellow LED lights up to indicate the sync.

Not sync in 192khz:
No problem as I announced in the title, up to 96khz, but beyond, although the led remains on continuously, my RME sound card alternates constantly between 192khz and back down to 96khz, displaying a 'Sync' status ( In synchronization) and 'Lock'.
The two Goldmike XLR outputs can still be used at the same time.

So, in total, how to know if it comes from the sound card RME or the Converter SPL ??? My RME has no problem otherwise ...

Another thing, through the optical outputs, I am in the levels of the RME, 6 to 8 db lower than the XLR outputs ... Which may be explained by the fact that there is not Of pre-amp on the RME card by the optical? ...
