Good and bad.

Pierre848, 30.07.2013
I dreamed about it, Soundman did it (Gag)

I'll start with the good one. Good sound quality. Excellent restitution of stereophonic space. High sensitivity (much too large for a microphone input? It is too easy to saturate the input) Good signal to noise ratio (a priori, not or very little breath). Efficient, light and discreet. Ideal for recording market sounds, fireworks, an acoustic concert, the atmosphere of a bar, a station dock, a walk in the forest and others. (Be careful not to move the head during the shots.

He lacks a crucial accessory that has yet to be invented, a "false helmet in the Walkman style" that is not equipped with HP and that would accommodate the earphones (openings to the outside of the helmet), so it would not risk Fall from the ears and remain absolutely discreet.

A disadvantage, its very high sensitivity, which during a percussion concert, "saturated the microphone input" of my recorder Olympus LS11 despite the attenuator -20 dB switched on and despite the recording level at 1! I should have acquired the attenuator power supply to connect it online but suddenly we multiply the risks of false contacts of the whole.

Much more serious, the headphones which according to the configuration of the lobe of the ear, is unhooked without stopping! Incredible that on a gadget of this price it did not conceive teats that penetrate the ear canal and that hold seriously in the ear, whatever the form. I should actually have to fall back on the less sensitive model!

Even more serious, the cable is incredibly loud and that carries any light rubbing of it with the clothes. Use one of the two small clamps to secure the driver to the back of your jacket so that there is no more friction transmission between the driver and the recorder.

Regret: Why does not Thomann indicate the sensitivity of these microphones? Still, it is a primary criterion?

Interesting microphone with a few weaknesses

Karl455, 21.11.2010
The OKM I mainly use for Atmo recordings for films and radio plays. It has two main advantages:

1. It is very compact and easy to carry anywhere. It is therefore very suitable for "snapshots", if an interesting sound meets you.

2. You can record very inconspicuously. Especially in public places, it is very helpful if you are not constantly listening to "Are you from the radio" on the recording, or all passersby immediately silently reverberate because they see a fat wind basket.

This alone is worth the purchase.

A major problem, however, is the relatively high wind sensitivity. A light wind is enough to mess up the recording.

The processing is moderate, the cable very thin. The microphones are built into very simple plastic capsules. In my first model, which I had bought a few years ago, somehow a microphone was torn off the cable, without I had treated it carefree, I had it only often used.

Of course it is also a very cheap stereomicrophone, which is unfortunately noticeable in the processing and in a not insignificant noise. I still have to rework the recordings before they sound really good.

If you hear them later on headphones, the result is really very impressive. The art head sound is really an experience.

Conclusion: A very special micro, but quite useful.
