Quality Control Issue - Shure issue
Anonymous 21.05.2014
If youre not aware - go over to Amazon USA and check out the feedback - there are quality control issues with these. The predominant fault seems to be buzzing in the right ear piece relating to first production batch. So I asked Thomann to send me 2014 manufactured to avoid that - they check and despatched - I got Nov 2013. Anyway - I tried them and frankly it was obvious - the buzzing in the right ear piece - I A-B them on different tracks and devices including Fiio X5 with hi res files - I tired swamping channels and connections, a spare Shure cable, every time my Shure 535s were absolutely fine - its just the 846s and the right ear bud. Very poor for Shure. I did hear them though and if you ignore the buzzing they are a very good - the best Ive heard - a definite step up from the 535s but that buzz - sorry thats poor. Having done more research there seem to be a fair amount of quality control issues so Im not replacing them for now - it said made in china so maybe its the supplier - I will wait - but I will buy again. Bit pricey too - maybe thats because of the small market for these ie highend and they need to recover R&D.
Shure - this is unlike you - please up your game !

Re Thomann - I return them the next day and the service was very good - just wish they had checked as the start.

Satisfied Customer.. 27.11.2020
These headphones are very dynamic. The high-end is rolled off pretty early so you won't get crispy highs from these. It is more of a flat, smooth sound signature where the bass performance, while not overpowering, shines. Comfort will vary depending on the person of course but these are not the most comfortable out there. You can listen for a couple hours with minor ear fatigue. Overall, these headphones are top-notch. Best-in-class for universal in-ears.

A masterpiece

I've tested the 846 next to my old 535... and I can hear a difference. The sound stage is much wider and the bassline is bright and strong. Very expensive earphones but a must-buy if you can afford them.

Almost perfect, except for quality control issue
Anonymous 31.05.2016
I've long been a fan of Shure IEMs, and recently bought the 846s to upgrade from my SE245's. Much more comfortable than the 425s, and a lot better overall sound too. The lows in particular are deep yet balanced.

Unfortunately mine had a slight rattle in the left earpiece on certain medium to loud bass notes occasionally. Tried making sure the filters were seated and the collars for the posts were tight, but it was still an issue more often than not.

Thomann sent me an RMA and pre-paid mailing label the morning after I contacted them, and they're on their way back to get replaced. Can't wait, these are excellent headphones, and while I'm frustrated by the wait, looking forward to getting back to putting these through their paces.
