Good but...

Benoit135, 04.07.2011
This microphone is really great if you sing while playing the drums.
It does not take up the elements of the battery on the other hand I am not sure that the cell is very solid ...
It may be difficult to cash out the light snaps, cymbals, etc ...!
I have already returned 2 times, it had more sound :-(
Another small defect, it does not necessarily hold up to 100%, do not stir too much head ...
In spite of these defects, it remains a micro high quality and I have not found for the moment a microphone as directional and hypercardioide than that one ...

Unbeatable in noisy environments

After a long odyssey a suitable headset for me as a singing drummer I finally found. All sound technicians, with whom I have worked together, are more than positively surprised no matter on which stage size (Miniclub to large open air)!
The Shure BETA 54 probably has the best tradeoff between well shielded kidney characteristics and general sound image. Undesirable background noise (such as cymbals or monitor sound) can hardly be heard. The sound is very clear, but of course has the limitations that a relatively small diaphragm brings with it. That is, heights and centers are more pronounced in the sound image than the bass region. The lowest bass range is cut off in vocals anyway.
The brackets are very comfortable to wear and do not interfere with longer events (> 2h).
Unfortunately the microphone slips easily with a lot of movement (which is already sufficient with the strong kidney characteristic), so I had to fix it to the bracket additionally with cable adhesive tape.
It is very important to remove the pop shield after each use (2 are included) and to dry the membrane and to free it from the saliva. Otherwise, the diaphragm will leave and there is damn unpleasant noise.
A pity is that the associated phantom power adapter for the cable-connected operation costs about 100 ¤ and thus is quite expensive.
All in all, a great headset and since the AKG CM311 (before Crown) is no longer distributed in Europe probably the only really useful headset for singing drummers or other moving singers in noisy environments.
