Brutal!

10.01.2017
Installed these in my 2009 MIA Fender Jazz bass.
Stock pickups were vintage ones and as I play in a metal band, needed something more "harsh".
These did the job, they brought more clarity to high mids and highs. Low mids are growly when needed and I won't even start about lows.
It handles everything you can throw at them.

Don't be fooled though. These are really versatile, can do great vintage tones as well, but with a nice growl to it.

I mainly play finger style and slap. These cut through distorted guitars and wall of cymbals like a knife through butter.

Have always used Seymour Duncan and these are top notch pickups.

Will buy again if I get another J type bass.

The "quarter pounder" = Sensational bass engine!

BassiBub, 13.07.2014
First experience report:

As a notorious left-hander, one is perhaps also glad about a half-sounding and yet affordable instrument, especially if one does not seem too rich?
The sound of my otherwise well-worked Squier jazz bass just appeared too thin and nasal? Similar to a puberting viola, similar to a standing bass. Was this really only the price?
After some dry-flooding and experience searches at music houses, dealers and manufacturers, the circle ended up closing again at Seymour Duncan's QuarterPound. Why not the same?

Contrary to the opinion of many "authorized experts" that the PU is only the complementary dessert to the final clay product, I am definitely contradicting. A good PU is at least as important as all components of the sound chain, from the processed wood to the amp to the box. What the PU "keeps" for itself, the best amp can no longer shake.
A "Design-ter" (Original OEM-PU from the Squier), which was "once next to Duncan," does not even "hear" what reserves were still slumbering in the instrument.

The quarter pounder holds everything he promises (in modest marketing not even).
A burly, powerful sonorous even "growl" with a good reins, yet still a pounding dose of Tiefton cement, disciplined steel drills, clear round brilliance with assertion in the heights - even with the strings of the "alcoholus" had. The large, shining Alnico5-eyes conjure up considerable flageoletts on the tone.

Impressive "Standing Sustain"! No vintage attacking tips from the 60s that you have to compress away. The sound presses evenly, like a laser in the amp, the instrument seems to play by itself. It is as if the quarter-pounder had rented the Compressor. "The smallest ambiguities that have hitherto been swallowed, the" ambassador "brings over, as if he already knew beforehand how it would be" meant ".

Really good workmanship is an extremely pleasant professional look. It fits with the part simply everything, neither cheap-drawing burrs on the high-gloss housing nor stored cable lengths. The change was easy and easy to process - 4 soldering points? A few screws - FINISHED!)
Note: For the retail price the manufacturer could alternatively add the screw set also in black, but this is more a matter of taste.

The QuarterPound can easily retrieve missing pounds from the instrument's range of sound, and adds a personal touch to what the "Duncan Design-ten" OEM variant of the JB was regularly hidden.
The PU leaves behind with sustainability what one dreams of adult sound and forgives more than generously, the inevitable little sound deficits occurring with more favorable instruments.
My fears that unwanted effects would be amplified as well, fortunately remained a scholastic theory of my commercial recommendation.

At the same time I have mutated my "small" 4Saiter to the longed Frettles. This made the sound of the original PU's even more restrained.
What now appears with the QP as sound was completely surprising and unimagined and can easily keep up with instruments of the next higher price classes convincingly.
(I use strings Daddario EXL165, Amps: Hartke2500 + 4x10er; MESA Boogie Carbine3 + Ampeg vintage HLF 4x10)

Conclusion: The quarterpound is after every successful first test in any form worth its money, makes consistently joy at a high level! Basically I have to miss an even better instrument without the usual haptics.

Recommendation: Anyone who has declared his still active "Vintage-Oldy" for updateability should not pass this PU unchecked. Make yourselves really comparatively small trouble; In comparison to the pleasant surprises you will experience!

At any time gladly resale !!!
Will also convert my other "bass siblings" with this engine.
As an active hobby-musician with sensitive ears and the love for the "Dicksaitern", which has been unbroken for years, I now enjoy to the full the "vibes" of the new 14kOhm coils with the large ALNICO-eyes.
