Direct Analog Power Amplification

17.11.2016
I'm using the Samson Servo 300 in a 6U as the list piece in the chain to power a pair of Yamaha floorstanding passive speakers. Signal comes from an American Audio EQ that comes from a Monacor/Stageline IMG 6 channel stereo mixer. Source is up until now a Cambridge Audio DAC. The plan was to get better quality sound but will be switching to more music production using a Steinberg external Sound Card. I use the Samson Servo's RCA inputs because it seems to deliver more volume (maybe these inputs have some sort of preamplification). In any case, the sound quality is perfect, no artifacts whatsoever, this amplifier does what it says. It is a pure analog power amplifier and if the source is good the amplification will be at least as good. I can say that compared to a consumer A/V Yamaha receiver it does go over in volume. I also noticed that the actual delivery in sound is instant, as compared to the Yamaha A/V Receiver amplifier which has a slight delay due to it's internal extra video circuitry and sound processing circuitry. I like the voltage displkay on the Samson's from panel. It really gives a good ideea on how much you can drive your speakers, as compared to traditional volume level or decibel loudness level volumes. I can certify that the auto-shutdown functionality is working when you overdrive the speakers too much. Highly recommed this product and any Samson products

Silent L fter, the power amp is also good for the studio

tonkueche de, 01.01.2018
After having the "little sister" Servo 120a in the studio for a couple of years and very much appreciate their features, I also wanted a stronger version for party sound and small live performances in conjunction with two JBL Control One Pro. Delivered one day before New Year's Eve, I was able to make my first experiences using canned music and on New Year's Day with the New Year's Concert from Vienna. The feeders are all of solid quality: CD player Yamaha CD 300 RK and Apple iMac 2008 on Yamaha small mixer AG06, from there into the Samson Servo 300.

What immediately stands out positively is the very restrained background noise of the two temperature-controlled fans. In operation at room volume as good as not noticeable, they are not unpleasantly loud even at high volumes.

The sound of the Servo 300 is neutral and transparent, and its 2x150 watts are dynamic and muscular over the Control One "over", a very successful combination. I think the power amp will easily power even larger PA speakers unless brutal volumes are required. In combination with the JBL Control One, high volumes are possible in any case.

Very successful is the beautiful front panel with the long control chains, which gives very precise visual information about which power range the power amp is running.

The workmanship is perfect and roadworthy, with its 9 kg, it is still quite well portable.

I've been using a lot of Samson over the years and most of it was very good to use and obviously practical, the servo series is no exception.

Missing I definitely do the lack of Speakon connections (also called "Speaker Twist") and XLR sockets would not have been wrong. A switchable "parallel mode" for double-sided amplification of a single input would also make a sepa- rate split box unnecessary.

In sum, the Samson Servo 300 is a very high
recommended power amp for relatively little money. It is a good power plant for small to medium-sized public address applications, and is also easy to use in the studio because of the quiet fans.
