Does what it says on the tin (okay, box)

Patrick M, 29.10.2015
Another one of them accessories you shouldn't feel excited for but kind of do anyway, power conditioners are marketed with a plethora of selling points. "Cleaner power", "longer lasting electronics", "Clearer sounding audio", and protection against surges/spikes that they would have you believe occur every other minute seem to be shoved under your nose in their advertising.

I bought this products for none of these things, though don't get me wrong surge protection is great for peace of mind. I bought this to make my life easy, and I think if they'd marketed it to that tune I'd not even have looked at other conditioners.

No more am I being nominated for 'disorganised bassist of the year' awards. No longer do I have to borrow power leads or steal them from my PC five minutes before I leave for a gig. A single power lead hooked into this stays in my rack unit and this takes care of the rest of the magic. My setup time is now next to nothing, even with a substantial set of cabs and a DI/mic, I have more room for other equipment and only have to look for a single power socket as opposed to fishing for power strips from the soundman because I need several.

Hardware time. The USB light at the back is pretty nifty, and really does help fin your way around if, say, one of the power patch leads has been knocked out of one of your rack units. The front pull-out lights are more of a 'nice/novelty' feature than an essential, and suffer from this unit's only real hardware downfall; vibrations seems to shake them out, even when the unit is completely flat, so that halfway through playing I turn around and both light pullers are sticking out several inches and shining light on the floor.

Otherwise the rack is solidly built, grips well into my rack unit and above all is beautifully simply to operate.

Should have bought one years ago...

Jay L., 15.09.2015
This is an odd one. You'd never think you'd need one of these, certainly not at home either?

It arrived, played with the lights for a few minutes. Decided to hook it up.

Firstly - it's either the cables or the rear sockets, but there is play when mounting the rear connecting power leads. Don't let this put you off. They'll never pull out, but they do wiggle about. I used to panel wire huge units, so I rather hastily wrapped electrical tape around each plug. A very easy fix - about 4-5 wraps and they were a very snug fit.

Secondly - even my wife noted it sounded better! Seriously. It did make a noticeable difference to the sound. Like putting a new battery in your favourite pedal? Just came across a bit brighter? Tighter? Warmer? A good musician friend with a fantastic ear noted that " the high gain hiss was more noticeable as the hum had gone"

To be honest I couldn't notice that exactly, just a tad quieter when cranked up?..

I'm using this with a valve marshall 100 watt rack and jmp1, Tc electronic m350 and eventually I'll cut into some cable and power my MXR dc brick from this too.

For What this cost, the neatness to the rear of my rack, the smoothness it brings and all the other benefits - I should have bought one years ago...
