Functionality for a great price!
Tim2787, 29.05.2015
Following hours upon hours of research, this is the product that kept coming up.

Let's start with the aesthetic... I, personally, love the look of this controller. It has a stylish and minimal two-tone design with pale blue trim which goes well with a majority of peripherals and its clean lines allow it to sit nicely in almost any studio. This is of course subjective, but there are plenty of sources to help you make up your own mind.

Now on to the physical features, and there are a lot of them... The keyboard has a plethora of features - the knobs are continuous with very tactile steps, making them great for fine adjustments. The faders are very smooth, quite weighty and overall just feel great. The keys are just the right weight for me although I'm not an experienced pianist; the velocity sensitivity is a great addition and the after-touch is something I never even realised the usefulness of. The pitch-bend and modulation wheels are both nicely textured and smooth-turning, with the pitch-bend wheel have a nice rebound. Finally, the drum pads - I personally haven't used them a great deal. They seem to work rather well but lack the more linear sensitivity that I would expect. The area between a solid hit and a light tap is hard to reproduce, although this is easily fixed in post; I just wouldn't recommend them for live performances.

Finally, the software/setup... This is the part that got to me and is the only real reason this controller lost a star for me. The setup, while similar to most controllers I've used, is underwhelming which is a contrast to my reaction to almost every other feature of this product. Depending on your DAW, it could take quite a measure of time to map each and every feature as the on-board settings simply didn't work out of the box. This is remedied with a little research and perseverance, after which the controller works flawlessly in all regards.

In conclusion, the build quality is solid for the price but the setup process leaves quite a bit to be desired. That said, there simply aren't any other keyboards at this price with the same specific set of features; the percussion pads, the knobs, the faders, the velocity-sensitive keys and after-touch - this keyboard has it all and once set up appropriately, allows you to make damn-good use of them!

Great MIDI Controller Keyboard
Michael_Axe, 03.03.2015
Great quality keyboard. The keys are high quality and have a professional feel and action. After touch works great and velocity too. All keyboard parameters are configurable via the keyboards control menu itself.

All major DAW's presets are loaded already as 'maps', preset 2 is 'Logic', tap Enter and its loaded. Latest firmware is already installed. Preset editor is downloadable from SAMSON website.

Configure the controller of this keyboard to specific instrument controls - search YouTube as SAMSON TECH have done a video that shows the common procedure for DAW controller with an example for Pro Logic X.

You can configure the various controls of the overall keyboard to a specific software instrument and safe the overall control set up as a Preset, make several presets and load them as needed.

It is plug and play even before you load the specific DAW preset.

Included software NI Komplete is good fun to get you started. I recommend SynthMaster 2 Player as a next low cost step.

My only grumble is the minimal user handbook/PDF. If you want to configure the keyboard then you need to search out YouTube films or go to major keyboard manufacturer's and search out their support tutorials, as the actions are primarily a specific DAW one rather than the specific keyboard.

I have been playing this keyboard for several hours each day and I really like the feel and response. It is a low cost quality keyboard. My MIDI controller and getting it to work in the DAW is going along ok.

Its possible to use a momentary foot switch. I use an A/B switch with latch or non-latch, for example - Behringer AB200 Dual A/B Switch. In latch mode it will remain switched to constant sustain until you tap the foot switch again.
