Joy of singing with smears

One thing in front: The CL151 is a real snoozy part: despite its small dimensions it has everything "on board" what you need: gate and compressor, so ideal to take the part times quickly to a session and "briefly" into the There. The low noise behavior is fine with moderate compression settings or is sufficient for live use. Despite the small dimensions, the arrangement of the control elements has been successful. The softtouch buttons also ensure a good habit, so the CL151 can be comfortably adjusted despite the narrow arrangement of the controls. The operating instructions are clear and sufficiently detailed, so that one quickly finds oneself. A circuit diagram is also included, so that the expert can easily carry out any service himself. The housing is easy to open and the soldered PCB is very accessible. The board and circuit diagram also match.
Yes, there is nothing to nag here? Oh, yes, about the attack time of the gate. While the operating instructions are talking about times of 5ms, the values ??(at least for my device) lie in practice at rather 300-400ms. This inevitably causes the signal to be severed severely in the beginning. I have not managed to find a setting where the effect does not occur. In my opinion, the gate section of the CL151 is useless! I also find it funny that this seems to the manufacturer seem not yet noticed; What does a compressor use to create "loudness" properly when I can not use the gate (feedbacks without end) -> really pity!
It is, however, possible to modify the gate circuit based on the existing circuit diagram so that the attack of the gain is sufficiently fast-> then the CL151 can be used optimally. This, of course, is only possible with a sufficient degree of professional knowledge, so that the "non-electronics" among us musicians is not, in my opinion, the untroubled enjoyment of CL151. PS: This is all the more annoying because you only have to change 2 component values ??and this would not be an extra effort for the company Rolls.
