Roland JD-XA the best of both worlds

Andreas071, 12.12.2017
So:
this advertising slogan is correct. The JDXA really brings together the best of both worlds.
For me, it's one of the best synths out there. Granted, in the beginning a bit tricky as far as the menu structure is concerned, but once it initializes and goes through every menu item and looks at what actually happens, men are stunned to realize that there is a certain logic behind everything and that it is not that complicated ,
I often feel in the 80's backtracked. Small display, menu navigation via various buttons. Okay, no dial wheel or anything, but - damn people - I love it !!! He's just fun and honest: He's my first synth, with whom I've been able to implement all the sound ideas I've got so far.

The mix of analog and digital is really great. Whether separately or together, it can be incredibly beautiful things tinker in no time.

For the digital sector, there are over 450 templates that can be selected per tone
And of course the usual digital waveforms and different variants.
There are 4 digital parts, each of which can consist of up to 3 different tones. In principle, 4 Roland Gaia. Not quite: the Gaia does not have the over 450 templates (wave presets).

The analogue area is just as much fun.

There are sounds on Roland's Axial page, like a Kebu soundset, to name just one. On a well-known video portal there is also something to download and in the forum of Roland there are also sounds and tips. But: what could be nicer than making a composition with your own sounds? Really being yourself? Working with sounds from others always has a stupid touch. Maybe you have composed something great -ok. But if the sounds are any presets or downloaded from somewhere, it just is not perfect. At least that's how I feel.

But it's no problem with the JD-XA. You make your own sounds with that !!!

From my side, a clear buy recommendation, if one is willing to take some time and just look at the quite simple structure of the Roland JD-XA in detail, after the presets gone through so times. 2-3 hours should be quite enough, if that. What could be better than exploring a new instrument?

Many thanks also to the great team of Thomann. Had ordered the JDXA even higher price. After a few days it was lowered. I then asked if you could probably accommodate me. Without any discussion, the difference was refunded to me. This is very customer friendly and accommodating !!!

Here I would like to thank the house Thomann again !!!
I was very happy about the concession !!!

One more thing to conclude:
The surface is really extremely sensitive. Even with a super microfibre fabric, you can catch it on the fly.

But: Roland offers all buyers a free overlay. This looks the Jdxa perfect. You can order this directly from Roland. After one day this arrived with me (registration required).

This upgrades the jdxa again considerably !!

For this original Roland Overlay there are also ensprechende videos

Great sound, some oddities

13.04.2016
Per
- The analog part sounds class, I have to compare OB-Xa, Alesis Andromeda etc.
Here you have the direct comparison between analogue and digital synthesis.
Even unbelievable how bold a single analogue voice can sound! Well done!
- The combination of analogue / digital synthesis brings new sound worlds to the fore. Very beautiful.
- The analog filters sound as they should. Depending on the setting warm, bold, british, crassly distorted, more clichés have not occurred to me now.
- The sequencer part is very successful, intuitive and powerful!
- The envelopes are pretty fast
- The vocoder sounds top class! Had to compare the Korg Radias Vocoder. There are worlds in between!
- Successful effects.
- The design is really sexy (see below for details)
- Analog controls can be set precisely
- 6kg weight. great
- The processing is Roland-accustomed very well

Contra
- 4 similar voices are too little for me personally.
- The manual is very superficial.
- The menu display in the small display is confusing
- The surface is very light ... High gloss ...
- no dial for the menu, you have to change everything with buttons.
- Red writing on a black background and then still red lighting .... is badly readable.
- The modulation possibilities are not enough for me personally
- Part MFX switch I have not brought to work.
So all parts always had all the effects. Possibly. I've also done wrong, but intuitively it does not go, the manual is silent.
- The device still seems to have some bugs:
- Analog part: Osc-Sync, whether Pitch Env on A-Osc1 or 2, the non-synced Osc is pitched. Sometimes worksier but also
- Analog part: Sometimes PWM does not work.

All in all, a great syntesizer, if one with the abovementioned above can live.
