Exceeded all expectations
Kama3, 10.05.2019
When it comes to mics I'm definitely a Shure fan. However, recently our band had an urgent need for 2 phantom powered mics and after thorough research, the price tag vs. specs of this Rode M2 caught my eye. Relying on Thomann' super warranty and return policies I ordered 2 pieces without further hesitation.

The build is robust, the materials used and the look & feel leave no doubt of quality, immediately after unpacking. Even the on/off switch is top class, which I never expected, not to mention the connector and the shape of the grill which I like a lot. There's an inclusive protector sleeve (pretty much the same as for Shure with different labeling) and a holder for mic stand which is also quality built.
The tone is great (5/5 in this price range, really), and this mic is also VERY suitable for "whispering" singers who have low volume. I assume there's a sensitivity difference and not just the +dB gain with the 48V. I'm quite sure that there's no actual competition in this price range who could beat the Rode M2. Would buy over and over again, highly recommended.

Live comparison
Hugh B., 29.06.2014
I have been using a Rode M1 for live vocals in a trio in which the other 2 guys are using Shure Beta 58s. Although the M1 was a much rounder sounding Mic, it lacked the Beta's higher input sensitivity .Thus, I had to bring the input gain on my M1 up a little more. The M2 on the other hand has the Betas beaten hands down on input gain and overall sound quality. This condenser Mic would be at home in the studio as well as for live performances. It has a far clearer high end clarity to it and more controllable proximity effect on the low end. The only down side to the M2 would be the on-off switch which could be deployed if using it hand held. Although it can be locked to the on position. At the price Thomann are selling at you would be crazy not to have one of these M2's in your Mic collection.

Not as good as my other Rode Mics
Eugene M., 12.12.2016
I am not all that happy with the M2.
Firstly, even with the blue ring inserted in the XLR socket all my xlr leads are loose when clicked in, o matter what brand.
I used this for the first time at a gig and the connection is that loose that when I adjusted the mic height it caused serious rattles and bad connections sounds in the PA at full volume. Any other mic I have from Audix,Shure, AKG and thomann's own t-bones dynamics never do this.
If you were doing sound for a show etc where various people are using the mic on a stand, it is very common for each to adjust the height and angle of the mic as they come on. In this regard I couldn't use the M2 as with loose connection it would produce too much rattles etc in the FOH pa. I do a lot of sound, have used hundreds of mics, stands , cables and never had this problem with any other mic.

I have an NT2000 which is great but it is one of the Australian made ones I think.

My main vocal mic for myself as a performer is the Audix OM7 and it is still the best live mic for 'gain before feedback' of the all but it very different from most and does require some EQing etc compared to an SM58 etc, but once dialed in, still the great and worth it.

I intend returning the M2 to Thomann. Perhaps I just for a bad one. Most reviews are good for the M2 but this is an honest review from and engineer and performer of over 20 years experience and I'm only stating my findings and as stated perhaps I just got a bad one.

Accuracy and strength from RODE
Jibu, 28.12.2016
I've owned Shure Beta 58A and SM58 for more then 5 years and never thought I would jump ship. I thought why it's cheaper and has decent reviews I'll give it a try and if I don't like it I'll sell it. This mic is better sounding and appears to be as good if not better built. What I like most about it is the absence of the super high frequency somewhere around 14-16khz that the Beta 58a seems to produces. This has was a nice warm full spectrum tone but not muffled like a SM58. I've had no issues with feedback and its sits in a live heavy rock band mix perfectly. Built like a tank. Zero buyers remorse. I highly recommend it!!!

This is a wonderful microphone that offers clean sound with robust build quality.

If you are looking for a quality mic that can take the abuse of live shows and being tossed around on the road, look no further than the M2.

Great microphone
PA user, 03.12.2013
If you are looking for great microphone with low budget this is the right choice.
All my vocal microphones are Rode M2. I changed standard mics Shure Beta 58A with this ones. Once I heard Rode M2 i know this is the microphone i was looking for a long time.

This microphone has several PROS:

- 10 years warranty
- quality builds, golden connectors
- smooth response over all frequencies
- very good feedback rejection
- higher output (needs less gain on mixing desk)

If you compare this mic with Shure Beta58A, you get better feedback rejections, smoother response, higher output, none of annoying "p" , "b", "s" sounds.. Shure Beta 58A do not have 10 year warranty, and it costs more.. I strongly recommend this mic!

CONS:
- just on/off switch.. I must say i hate it, despite you have chance to lock it..

Use for Vocals in a Band
ChrisDowning, 13.03.2019
This is a very clear and powerful vocal mic that I use in a medium loud band. Not sure its quite as feedback proof as a SM58 but close. And the sound is crystal clear. The band is 40 valve and 100 ss loud so that gives you an idea of what the mic is up against (no feedback destroyer either)

I was looking for some sturdy microphones on a budget, and these are some of the best I've ever used for the price. I am a big fan of RODE Mics, and these do not disappoint. Perfect for podcasting.

Ticks all the boxes
RonanM, 04.07.2014
This is a nice mic that will help you create a great sound whether at a live gig or in the studio. I've been using it in both contexts and it's been serving me well. So much so I'm thinking of getting another one!

Rode M2 - not bad microphone
pawela, 23.11.2014
I've been using this microphone for more than 2 years and had no problems with it. The capsule, when I first saw it didn't fill me with confidence, but you will not normally see it, unless you unscrew the grill. On/off switch in my opinion is unnecessary, but can be locked in on position with a screwdriver. Compared to microphones costing twice it's price it looks and feels that it is from a slightly lower shelf. Having say that, I must admit that with all female singers I tried it, I liked the sound. The microphone made them sound warmer, which with some women voices is a very good feature. It is not boomy, and in my perception the top end is not as airy as with other condensers, but that can be adjusted with eq. It may cause some problem with undisciplined vocalists, as it's hypercardioid.
This is quite good microphone and worth its price. I don't regret buying it. In this price range 5 stars.

The pouch that came with the microphone is unfortunately the weakest part of the package - the zipper disintegrated (of a dozen different microphones I regularly use, only Rode pouches - 2 of 3 - didn't last long, and I'm very careful with them).

Best price / quality Micro
Daniel Ludgero, 29.12.2014
I bought this microphone for my wife, she loved the look and the sound, is a super transparent and with a sound optimum quality microphone. The best of it is the price turns out to be cheaper than a SM58 and better sound. I advise everyone to sing live and give way one power boost the microphone.

Unbeatable consistent sound for the money
16.07.2014
-The sound of this microphone is very warm and detailed
-Proximity effect is not disturbing in any way, but helps when needed
-Good feedback and off axis rejection
-Good on loud environments
-Handling noise is almost inaudible
-I like the noiseless button too, does not make any clicks

Just a small advice is not to hold the microphone by the grille, because in that case it tends to feedback quicker.

Would certainly recommend this one to a friend!

Great.
Jj F., 09.03.2016
Was looking for a cheap but full frequency microphone right to 20khz. This does that right out the box, i have been using it for the last few rehearsals and its clear and great clarity for my voice.

There isnt a great proximity bass boost, so if thats what your looking for this isnt the mic for you. However if you want your vocals to have great clarity then buy it now.

Just remember tho because of the extra high frequency, it is prone to more feedback than a similar dynamic, so more thought for placement and monitors.

Unfortunatly i would of loved this WITHOUT a switch but i dont think they do one.

on a side note, the mic is a tad ugly, but who cares.
I would buy again.

Strong all round mic
AllanS, 02.03.2015
This mic is a strong all round vocal mic, I use it as my goto lead vocal mic, as well as for voice of god uses. seems very resistant to feedback, and keeps its tonality nice as you go off axis (somewhat like a d:facto)

good condenser microphone
DMC, 05.03.2014
I bought this as an alternative to the more commonly used shure SM58. I play many pub gigs where the PA systems leave a lot to be desired, the house systems are often old or underpowered or have mediocre speakers.
In these situations condenser mics shine through whereas non-condenser mics struggle to produce a good vocal sound.
It is of good rugged construction too and is well made.
This mic is a bargain at this price.

Excellent Mic
Christopher Davies, 08.05.2013
Really great mic for live applications,I find it sound really nice on female vocals as its a condenser you gives you a brighter sound.

Great value for money and competes with other mics of a higher price.

Highly recommended to any one needing a good quality condenser vocal mic for a small budget.
