Lots of light and a bit of shade

In my opinion, the RME HDSPE AIO has to be clearly divided into two areas: functions and operation.

Compared to other cards known to me from renowned manufacturers, the RME has by far the most features to offer. The "Total Mix", a virtual mixing console that allows all tracks to be routed in almost any combination, is a good thing to notice. This is simply fantastic. I would not know why you still need an analog mixer. With the Total Mix you can do it all wonderfully in the map.
Latency is also very positive. I have a 2 year old system and still come down to 1.5ms latency, with 64 samples. I think it does not get any better. And even with 18 tracks and VST instruments, etc.

Now to the operation. Even if you count yourself to the computer Aficionados, the training into the service takes some time. The handling is not self-explanatory. At least not if you, like me, for the first time a RME system served. The operating instructions are quite detailed, but not necessarily logically structured, ie the signal flow. Here you could gain a lot by a better manual. On the other hand, it has a certain charm: one notices that the map is built by real technology and sound freaks and not by the marketing department.
Conclusion: you need a little adaptation period, but then it is all supi.

One last small minus point: who works with PC cards, which in my opinion are superior to any USB or Firewire solution, must know that the cable whips of these cards all have quite thin cores. Since one comes with a thick MonsterCable and then goes over the XLR plug into a very thin vein. That certainly does not harm the sound. But you should store the cable whip securely. If you should roll with the office chair over it, the wire is through. But this problem has interestingly all manufacturers. Unbelievable, why you can not even think of a somewhat more robust solution.

Overall Conclusion: Purchase recommendation!

Can do anything, do everything !!!

Tim735, 18.11.2009
I have a new computer with an Intel Quad-Coe i7 treat myself and in this course also separated from my 24 bit Creamware card. The new system still runs under Windows XP with Cubase 4 on an Asus motherboard. Then finally, the RME HDSPE AIO ordered and installed:

The entire installation ran completely without problems. Cubase was able to access the very fast PCI Express card. Then finally sound - sounds very good! It has very little background noise, recording and playback impeccably. I especially like the included software Digicheck. It is a kind of "penguin" and analyzed by the spectrum analyzer on almost everything you need - without burdening the computer itself. Unfortunately my first card had a defect, MIDI did not run. In the second, however, everything was immediately as it should be.

Conclusion: If you do not want to simultaneously record different signals, here has a very fast, super-sound and versatile card. I would buy them again...
