Excellent

poloz, 30.05.2017
The driver multi-client is excellent, very stable on windows 10, with a laptop I have to adjust on 128 samples to be quiet (3ms) but can work with 32 samples on a machine more powerful without problems, I can use Cubase 9 64bits at the same time as Cantabile 32bits and thus access all my plugins, all the software have ASIO access simultaneously, each software can use different inputs / outputs or mixed internally, the LoopBack mode on the outputs allows to record the output of any software on the sequencer, I have not yet tested the remote control, level sound quality is day and night with my old presonus 1818, and more transparent than my IBOX8XLR24 yet excellent. I tested the M / S button for stereo sound is convenient to have a zero latency feedback.
I have not found a fault yet, it is reliable solid, simple to install, with a USB cable Cordial long is convenient, and the sound quality is excellent.

My shootout winner

Michael943, 02.03.2018
Have compared the UFX II against the new MOTU 828es and my Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 2nd Gen.

To make it short: From the preamp and AD conversion page, the devices do not give much. Scarlett and MOTU sound almost identical (a bit more detail in the middle of the MOTU), RME delivers a slightly less musical, but drier sound (deeper bass, lighter treble). But we really only talk about details that could easily be "corrected" with + 2dB bass and treble at the EQ.

What ultimately made me decide to keep the RME (although almost twice as expensive as the MOTU):

1.) Better DAC. Although the MOTU adorns itself with the ESS Saber 32Bit DAC technology, the DAC side sounds a lot clearer at the RME. As with the ADC here too, lower bass, lighter heights. This works well with electronic music or with very modern Metal, who likes more middle-class grunge or indie becomes just as happy with the Motu or Focusrite. Now I understand only what the numerous reviews mean with the "RME sound" ... dust-dry, very detailed, nothing veiled. You do not like it or you do not like it, you have to know it yourself ... But for me it is also less important in the monitoring, but for the "outsourcing". If I want to chase a signal through my 500cc lunchbox, I can be sure that the signal from the RME is as clear and strong as it went in! Very important to me!

2. Quality of the drivers - Since I did not want to install 3 different drivers on my (Win 10) DAW, I used my Win 8.1 laptop for this shootout. The drivers of all three interfaces could be installed without problems and get up and running, although the drivers and the digital mixer of the RME were clearly the fastest, and recorded and played without cracking or interruptions. Second place goes to Focusrite (logical mixer, but limited in routing options), the browser mixer of the MOTU was very slow for me (-may also be on my Firefox). Also, I did not manage to stop zero-latency monitoring right away.

3. Last point: processing. If you have all 3 devices in front of you, it's obvious that the RME is the only interface that has a professional build quality. No poti wiggles, no regulator feels cheap, XLR cable razor sound, there's nothing to play. The RME sees itself as a professional studio tool, through and through German, perfect engineering, "a workhorse", very thoughtful and mature .... while the MOTU looks 100% American, Mojo factor on 110, 2 beautiful color displays, black, looks cool, but at second glance, the shortcomings reveal - Potis slightly wobble, a little cheap processing (mMn even worse than that of the Focusrite).
In addition an absolute no-go: a very very loud crackling at the headphone and monitor outs when switching on and off. Yes I know, these are the relays. And yes, each of these interfaces makes sounds when switching off and on. BUT: With the Focusrite you can eliminate it by turning the volume of the headset to zero and making the speakers sound (the advantage of analogue controls), and with the RME you can not turn anything quietly before you turn it on (headphones and monitors are digitally controlled , on the interface itself are only endless encoders), but at least here is the cracking only very quiet and dull.

In the MOTU, however, one almost fears a tinnitus (and for the speakers and headphones that is certainly not so healthy in the long run!). Workaround would be the boxes after the MOTU turn on and connect the headphones only after that, but honestly ... must be?

What I still found good / better at the MOTU:
- Operation for 2 pairs of boxes directly at the front !! (A / B, Mute, Mono ... super handy)
- Two hardwired sends for outboard equipment, brilliant idea, why does not the RME ??
- The 2 colored displays incl. Mojo factor ;-)
- Saved almost 1000¤ compared to the RME

Conclusion: You can make professional music safely with all 3 interfaces. For me, the finishing quality of the RME was ultimately decisive, in terms of hardware and software. I have to get the mojo from somewhere else ;-)
