Great interface
Myrtillus, 01.05.2020
I have it for almost two months now and I love it. I have it on a small studio for electronic music production. It does everything as expected, works flawlessly, with beautifull functional included bundled software. It is a joy to work with, specially those almost endless audio routing possibilities which are so useful for electronic music production when needed. Through software you will have access to lots and lots of useful functions and different settings, this interface is quite vast in configurability.

The only thing that could be better out of the box is that you have to set the main volume via software, or buy the ARC remote to do it, there simply are no phisical knobs/faders or buttons that can do this directly on the interface, which is somewhat to expect in this kind of products, even though I do not use it in a rack mount.

The two independent headphone jacks on the front are quite useful for A/B stuff, and they can drive high impedance headphones (DT 880 Pro 250 Ohms for example)

The Ipad Ios integration is perfect in the remote version or the paid version (4.99 euros at the time). You get full access to the board inside your Ios device just like in the desktop version of TotalMix and much more configurable settings in a separate menu . I tested with some apps like Cubasis and all channels become available just as expected.

I would say I would buy it again, and the truth is that I had :) I had the Fireface 800 more than a decade ago, and yes, this new model is even better. 5 Stars

This is the example of how you should build an AI
03.02.2016
I bought this AI for 3 reasons: stability, quality preamps, low latency. And good reviews. A lot of good reviews. I guess this will be one of them, but i managed to find some... specificities.

First of all, i got all three of these traits i mentioned.
Preamps are really clear, and they have this kind of clarity in very low end and very high end that makes sound very juicy, very rich and big. If you're recording decent instrument, that is. I have Radial DI box, which everybody consider a really good one, and DI input on this AI sound way more sexy with this Gibson SG of mine. I hope it does say something, since if i'd were to buy 4 of these Radial DI's, i'd spend 400$. One third of a price of that AI. And this AI have much more than just DI preamps. So it REALLY does worth more than it costs on Thomann.

Stability. Well, i have almost none comments on that - and that means everything is smooth as hell. If you're doing things in a right way, that is - be sure to use separate USB/Firewire controller for this AI. Separate from other devices, i mean. I plugged it in on the controller i had an iLok and a USB keyboard Oxygen 61 on at first - after one week Fireface suddenly started to give me really bit-crushed signal on the outputs. This effect of distortion were gone after turning AI off and on again, but it was back again after half an hour or so. Moving AI to other USB controller solved the problem. I don't really blame the device - digital sound is a touchy thing and problems like that are usual in AI field, you just need to be sure you're keeping risks on minimum on your end.
My motherboard is asus maximus VII hero.

Low latency. Well, it's really better than on my previous AI Scarlett 6i6. Like, i can load twice as much stuff on project and still record on twice as lower latency than with 6i6. Still, i expected more for some reason, but hey, it's not like i need so much stuff on a recording project - song turns out best when it was recorded awesomely and mixed good, not when it have been recorded meh and awesomly fixed.

About TotalmixFX, the driver for this AI. First of all, it was waaay more easy to understand than drivers of other AI manufacturers. Simplier than driver for 6i6 i mentioned, even, and 6i6 means that there's only 6 inputs and 6 outputs.

There is some specificities though. First - there is FX send here, but FX are not true-bypass and FX's are full wet. That means you can't use this send as unaffected by effects send. Second, a loopback feature could have been implemented in a more flexible way - you can loopback, let's say, output "Analog 3" only to input with the same number, only to "Analog 3" input. And if you turn loopback on, that means you won't hear what you'll send to physical "Analog 3" input. They could have implemented a small slider for mixing these two signals together, if you ask me. It'd help me slightly.

Again, it's really awesome interface. I feel like i won't need to change it for at least a decade. Expand it, yes, but not replace with something.

RME gurantee
AstronautDown, 15.12.2020
There's a lot to say about this but if you're looking into RME you probably know it's the real deal. I should say that the TotalMix is the cherry on top that somehow makes RME interfaces really have an advantage, the routing capabilities are simply unparalleled. In all other regards, this is just a top notch interface.

Very good sound
Smirnow, 19.04.2018
I use my new RME in home studio so it's cool to have many inputs and outputs for my synths and samplers. The user interface powered by RME TotalMix is very nice and eazy to use. Also the instalation of stabil drivers is very fast without any problems. The most important is a sound quality. Before I was using quite old interface MOTU 828 mk2, so in this case RME Fireface 802 is matchless better. The very low latency is also important thing. In my opinion RME is a very good choice for everybody who need reliable audio interface witch perfect quality of sound.
