Stunning piece of kit!
I bought the RME Hammerfall 9652 way back in 2007 and it hasn't missed a beat since. I use this to interface my Tascam DM24's adat connections, enabling me to run 16 in and 16 out over just 4 toslink cables.
The package come with 2 cards - one of which is a PCI card providing 16 ins and outs, as well as the connection for the break-out cable that supplies the spdif I/O and the 2 in 2 out midi access. The other card is a daughter board card, which whilst it takes up a physical slot space, does not connect to a slot itself. Instead there is a robust ribbon connector that connect the pair together, so should you require another pair of adat ins and outs, it also provides a word clock connection on BNC.
RME have continually supported their product, and there has been a steady stream of driver and firmware updates over the years, all of which have been as rock solid as there predecessor.
Along with the incredibly versatile software mixer that allows the user to route any input to any output as well as latency free direct monitoring and their DigiCheck utility, RME provide here an excellent interface, solid and flexible that has after nearly seven years of service has never let me down.
