A name ph no!
The instrument conforms to what one can expect from the brand in terms of finishing and is moreover closer to a luthier instrument than a factory product. Hence the waiting times to have one right-handed. Regarding these basses I would almost say that you can come as much bassist as to "play the Rickenbacker". I hardly exaggerate. As such, its original sound, its aesthetics, its particular handling and the fact that it is a trickery in certain musical styles, should occupy a special place in the category as Pianos Fender Rhodes or Hammond organs as there are people to play only on these instruments. For my part, that would logically happen if I had not stupidly sold my 4001 bought second-hand in 1979. For if my other basses of other brands, of which the best, seemed to me of finishing As excellent, maintaining the body sometimes superior and a perfect sound, they appeared to me singularly bland in comparison color side sound, power and touch. In fact, I would never find such a personality, such a character.
With the 4003 I find myself in known terrain but from my point of view the 4003 is the finished grind of the 4001. The handle is significantly wider, enough to make the game with the finger easier. I find on the other hand his constant thinness to the highest notes. We do not begin to play on a handle to end up on a trunk in the acute so much that here no heel doubling the thickness. Particularity yet destabilizing enough at the beginning that to hold a bass globally so thin especially standing. Indeed, its identical thinness of the head at the end of the case makes it rather mobile and as such I liked enough the pataud comfort of the large well known violin. The sound of the 4003 seems to me richer than its elder in addition to being more powerful. And, icing on the cake, we find the harmonics clean to the 4001 by raising a knob push pull, which makes it even more generous sound level palette. That said, it's a bit too much if you want a quick setting. The damper is really very operant and with the bass played on the fingers, the double bass effect is pretty bluffing. Ideal for jazzy pieces. It is therefore much more versatile than in legend. If you have two amps and idea, the stereo output is far from a gadget.
Due to the fact that it is slightly shorter and wider at the body than the 4001, this 4003 is also better balanced from my point of view. That said, although the small thickness and the touch make the contact extremely pleasant when held, it takes a little time to feel comfortable if one has the fingers that cavalent. She is a little deserving. As such, the Fender basses "fall" more under the hands and offer a dialogue certainly more immediate by floating less in a standing game for example. As for the famous sustain, the explanation of the sleeve of the conductive sleeve always seemed to me a little short after having played on other basses also with conducting sleeve without obtaining the same sustain. Basse finding all its colors in the game to the mediator as it is known, it will hardly discretion of the routardes in music where bassists expect an efficiency as useful as discreet. Indeed a Rickenbacker will bring out the sound sometimes almost as much as a guitar if one plays the pick, which does not always please the group by the way. On the sound side, if you know its snapping tone, the bass is less cited or it is also surprising since playing with the low microphone only and with fingers you end up with the softness and depth of a pedal bass. The acute microphone set on the 4003 sound, it gives a sound rather oriented rock hard or even metal, but coupled with the other micro we find ourselves with the characteristic sound of this bass and perhaps more pronounced than with the 4001. Short. It is a rare instrument. A phenomenon. Shared opinion that one is unconditional or not because there are nevertheless bassists to snober the Rickenbacker for the very reasons that make them adore by others, mark of a real singularity. It is really a question of sensitivity and intimate correspondence a musician and an instrument made for him or not. After this concert of praise, if there is any thing that could have happened, it is the obligation to relax the strings to adjust the length and thus refine the accuracy. To dissuade us from changing them. A small regret also, is the noticeable drop of volume on the high knob lifted to have the sound 4001. As for keeping the agreement, my copy does not move. Hardly a comma difference on a rope or two in the event of a large variation in temperature.
A word about Thomann I buy for the first time. The service is up to the feat of offering 4003 left-handers available. The packages were well packed and the cartons did not arrive smashed. I am really satisfied on all levels.

Great, fantastic, AMAZING !!!
Wolle S., 16.11.2014
First of all thank you to the Thomann music house, that you have fulfilled me a very great desire, dream. For many years I try to get as a lefthander exactly this bass, it seemed absolutely impossible. As I then the Friday the 07.11.`14 evening the Bass, I needed a double whiskey first! For me was Christmas, birthday, all at once. The Osterhasi, Nicolausi, the holy three kings and all angels were also there! So, then. Alone the case is the hammer. The sound, as well as its variety, are fantastic. The clarity of each individual tone, whether in high or deep positions, also in chords is great. Today's more modern bassbums under the Rickenbacker tüpischen Brilianz is enormous. The push-pull function of the one tone regulator, Which makes the old Rickenbacker sound, is also outstanding, if one needs it. The playability of the Griffbrettes, as well as the entire bass is very good. Very easy. Even slap is on the prima! With the wide fretboard one has something in the hand, the weight of the bass is also OK. Now many, dear thanks
