A high quality, versatile, portable head
Mr Gui, 13.09.2018
I own this head since april 2018. I use it at home, in rehearsal (metal band) and it made its first concert a few weeks ago.
Before buying it I was playing exclusively (for more than 10 years) an Orange rockerverb 100 (mk1).
I wanted a smaller amp with a more sharp and precise distortion. I love the orange sound but wanted somtething 'clearer'. I also wanted a versatile amp.
In this regard I have what I was looking for... and much more.

Features
To summarize, it is a 3 channel amp (clean/crunch/distortion) eq controls are common for clean and crunch (except a crunch gain control and a bright switch specific for the crunch channels) and there are separate controls for the distortion channel.
There are also a few useful miniswitches that enable you to further find and refine your sound. I won't go into further details because you can already find everything online in this regard.
A really cool and useful feature is the fact that there are three different distortion modes (named agression level here) wich are very useful and enable you to go from classic rock to extreme high gain territory without loosing clarity.
Another really cool fetaure is the 4 button switch which enables you : - to switch channel btw clean and crunch (button 1);
- to switch between clean/crunch and distortion;
- to activate/deactivate the fx loop (and can be used as a boost if there is no effect plugged in the fx loop);
- to mute the sound of the amp (useful but I'm using my boss tuner to achieve the same result).
And... the footswitch can also be used to store four presets. But I have not yet used this feature.
I'm not being exhaustive here concerning features, because other sources can give you every information you need on the caracteristics of the amp. One last thing though: it is really nice to have the possibility to select the 7 or 40 watt mode for each channel (btw clean/crunch onn one hand and distortion on the other).

Sounds
The clean is really outstanding, it's really clear and crisp without being too 'trebly' and if you push the volume you can achieve a really nice breakup sound.
Crunch are really nice too and when pushing the crunch gain to the max you get a light fuzz effect which sounds really good.
Distortion
of three agression modes (green, blue and red) I use mostly the red one because it suits my needs in my metal band both for rythm and lead work. Note that the three agression modes have not only an impact on the level of gain but also on the structure of the gain. As I find the distortion channel to be quite bright overall I also use the fat mini switch a lot (gives you more oomph if that make sense). While the distortion channel (in the three modes) is really good on its own I usually push it a little more with an od pedal in front.

Pros
- Lightweight (12kg less than my Orange head);
- Lot of useful and great sounding tweaking options;
- Great cleans which are not there only to play a nice melody before all hell breaks loose;
- Great distortion, lot of clarity, it really 'cuts through the mix';
- Takes pedal very well, I tried lot different od's, fuzzes and distortion and it was always very convincing. I only use a delay (mxr carbon copy) in the fx loop and it sounds great.
-Loud so it can cover most live settings (probably all in fact)
- cuts through the mix

Cons
- Lot of tweaking options, as a longtime Orange user I needed some time to adjust to all the options and I do not use all (or most) of them in my day to day practice, (on the other hand it can certainly offer something to every one).
- Loud: to play at bedroom level you have to find the sweetspot for each channel I you want the amp to sound 'full enough' 7 watt is compulsory in my opinion. I would certainly not call this a bedroom amp. (But, it is possible to play at low volume and still have a good sound).
- Boost function not very intuitive: if no fx unit is plugged in the fx loop, you can use the fx button on the footswitch to have an integrated boost by usin the fx level control on the back of the amp.
The fact is that if you hit the fx button switch when no fx is plugged in the volume of the boost will be the one you had when you pushed the fx switch. If you de-activate the fx button and the fx level was set to minimum you will experience massive loss of volume.
The first time it happened to me I really thought thamp was broken.
Revv then nicely explain how it works, but I dont find it easy to comprehend by reading the manual. The tip is: if you don't need the boost function, crank the fx volume control to the max, so there will be no volume incident if you or one of your bandmate accidentally step on your footswitch in a live situation.

Finally, it is not necessarily a bad thing but I find it to be rather a bright sounding amp so I tend to keep the treble control before 12 even with darker sounding guitars.

Conclusion
Great amp with great tones and in my opinion it can cover a lot of musical ground and always sound convincing. Have it since april 2018, probably still have a lot of sounds to discover and If one day I stop loving metal (will never happen) it will certainly be still worth keeping!
