Expensive but good.

Michael065, 24.03.2017
A very good micro.

I am an amateur singer / songwriter and take my pieces with the Peluso P12. I use the Peluso for voice, guitar and yes - bassdrum in my semipro studio.

I wanted to have a micro that has a certain warmth that I can use to clean up, the directional characteristics of which can be switched (Figure 8 was important to me) and which may also be suitable for sources other than vocals and guitar. Actually a U-47 / U-48 but not for the price of a U-47.
I own a small studio in Logic and use a RME Fireface 800. I have some large diaphragm microphones in the cabinet (Neumann TLM 103, TLM 67, CAD 3000, otherwise: AT 2020, AKG 3000, T-bone SC 400)
I spent some time (months and years) exploring forums, listening to test recordings.
Finally, a comparison of different Pelusos in the net (also with Peluso U-47 clones) made the decision.
In the network during test recordings the Peluso P 12 struck so: Voice sounded good and neutral, more neutral than with the 47 reproductions. Acoustic guitar very fine and for my feeling simply clearer - better than with the Peluso competitors. After some recordings with me I can now determine the following.

My own experiences with it:

positive
1. (My) voice is rendered very detailed and clear.
For my hearing, my voice is a little brighter, there is no so strong enrichment with overtones as with the TLM67, it is not as bass-heavy as the TLM67, and it is also not as scratchy as the CAD 3000. (Otherwise mag I also the TLM 67 very.)
The proximity effect in the Peluso is comparatively low.
If you want a tube microphone, a larger discolouration in the direction of the tube, should be another micro and should be synonymous with cheaper microphones.
2. Of all the microphones I own, this is the best and most universal for my purposes, together with the TLM 67. I have recorded the Peluso P 12 hitherto singing, guitar acoustic, electric guitar and bassdrum.
- sounds easy at all.
3. Robust case, useful spider and wooden case are included.
4. Cheaper than a U-47, AKG c12 or Gefell or a top micro.
5. It sounds saugeil and I do not give it anymore.

negative
1. Output is quite low despite pre-amplification box, no problem with the RME, but with more favorable preamplifiers possibly already.
2. The packaging could have been more loving, when cutting the carton, I have apparently scratched the type plate :-(
3. Incorrect power cord. An American power cable for the ballast box was supplied. This is a 08/15 three-pole cable, one I had still and then stop then that. But should be at the price already the right cable. I am at Thomann monier, so then no problem, but annoying.
4. It costs a lot of money.

Some testers have a switchover noise when changing the characteristic. I could not understand it so far.

Yes, the various characteristics sound different, also this is variously criticized,
But I actually thought that is the point.

Microphones are always strong taste.
I had ordered a Mojave microphone at Thomann years ago, I did not like it at all and I sent it back again. I would always recommend the equipment itself to listen and even try, even if a review is still so good. The Peluso is expensive, but in my opinion and worth every penny.

We should all have it.

This microphone has quickly become my favorite. Perfect in any situation that requires brilliance, sharp detail and fidelity. Sold in a convenient suitcase, compact, contains the microphone in wooden case, shock mount and cables. The typical rugged looks of Peluso microphones must not be fooled: the excellent quality / price ratio and sound quality, make them of the flagships for any recording studio. Based on the AKG C12 model, it possesses all the attributes but not the defects being in fact is perfectly clear in the top end without being edgy. A large purchase without a doubt.
