This is a great kit, so much can be done with it
Robtimus Prime 23.03.2018
This is a great kit, so much can be done with it.
I purchased it not too long ago, and Thomann?s great service had the drums to me in a few short days. I use it mainly for practicing at home as it?s nice and compact but feels just like a standard sized kit, so you get the feel and sound of an acoustic drum kit. It?s got a great sound for jazz, pop or hip hop, but I?m sure you can get all kinds of styles from this.
I also purchased some mesh heads and some silent cymbals, so as to not disturb the neighbours and play around with the silent drums idea and it?s great.
It is very well made and looks very professional. It has some great little features that I felt were lacking in the Ludwig Questlove kit for example, as great as kit can be, I felt the Pearl midtown is an upgrade of that kit. Little attention to details, like the rubber on the kick claws so as to not damage the hoop or affect the sound, the little curve taken from the inside kick hoop to accommodate different kick pedals and the tom mounting system. Little attention to details like this make it feel and look like a grand kit, not a cheap little child?s kit or anything like that.
I?ve had the opportunity to play a few gigs so far with this kit, one out in the open and also in small acoustic settings. The size of these drums do not represent the sound quality you get, so no need to worry about them getting drowned out, they are well made and perfectly able to hold their own. Outdoors they are great, and the snare has a great crack from it, even without any mic set up.
I suppose the cons I would give would be about the kick, but just to be clear, very minor cons. In some settings it can lack a little punch, of course with some mics this can be addressed but if you?re looking to an acoustic set you may find the kick getting lost, depending of how many others are on stage with you and the size of the venue, etc. But again, the toms and snare are well able to sing and hold their own.
In the end the kit looks great, very well made and doesn?t look or sound cheap in any way. Great for practice at home and for quick little gigs as it?s so light and easily transported. If you like that Pearl sound and you?re in the market for a little bop kit you cannot go wrong with this midtown kit, it?s great.

Very Useful and Good Quality Kit
FilipH 12.12.2017
The kit is very light and practical for transport and the hardware is robust and of great quality for the price. Actually everything looks and works like you would expect from a top-tier drum. Great lugs, rosettes, screw action, thick hoops and workmanship in general. Even the snare wires sound fine and offer good response. Rims are of the thinner kind, as you would expect for the budget, but nothing feels flimsy or works shabbily. You would do well to replace the tom batter heads and the snare resonant head, but on the whole the entire set sounds, sets up and looks great. And the kick drum lift is an awesome accessory, as well as the cut in the associated hoop. Absolute bargain. I also sometimes turn mine into an e-drum, with a couple of mesh heads and triggers. Ideal drum for that kind of modification. I can't recommend it enough.

Pearl Midtown
David H. 742 30.10.2016
Bought this kit last week.
Wow. What value for money this little kit is.
Just changed heads on the toms.
Left original snare and bass drum heads on.
I mic up all drums through a very good quality PA and I'll tell you, it sounds huge. The whole kit
fits in 2 padded bags. So easy to carry. I will change the snare batter head, and honestly if I had to pick a weak point about this kit, it would be the snare itself.
Totally useable but not the best, then again you must remember the price of this whole package!!!
Pearl have done it again.
Fully recommended.
Tune it right, mic it up and boom.
Go for it.

Amazing kit!
jakeyboy 08.07.2019
Bought this as I gig weddings a lot and need something more lightweight to carry all the time. This kit is great! Small but doesn't compromise on sound! Stick a mic in the bass drum & it sounds great! Cymbal stand in the bass drum mount and boom cymbal arms off that for anything else I need, with another clamp for the tom. Works great!
