Fantastic amp
Human Paraquat , 20.06.2014
As I have been playing for a number of years I thought it would be best to upgrade to a stack without spending loads and loads of money. I have heard great things about this amp and it really delivers an unchained and raw sound on the "dirty" channel and pristine, clear tones on the clean channel which breaks up as you crank the amp (just like with tube amps).

I was looking at tube amps and they seem to have way more maintenance and very expensive so this is a great alternative as it sounds just like a tube amp.

The amp has a ton of gain which really only starts to come alive after you pass 12 o clock on the gain dial.

The music I play is mainly stoner doom, eg Black Sabbath, Sleep, electric wizard which the dirty channel handles really well. But I also like to play metal such as Pantera and Ozzy Osbourne, which the amp doesn't have quite enough distortion to cut it (because the dirty channel is just basically fuzz) so I'd recommend buying a distortion pedal if you want a metal sound.

The amp has no effects which for me isn't an issue because I have pedals for that. The only "effect" it does have is reverb which is digital (although the amp is analogue) but it sounds very natural and real.

As a whole this is a great amp for playing shows but also for practicing in your room because the volume knob is really responsive unlike some solid state amplifiers ie fender frontman. Great service from Thomann. Buy one.

Oh, yes!

I had searched a lot before buying this amp.
I wanted a good head for around 500E (I play heavy rock mostly) and this is probably the best head you can get for that money.
True Orange sound, easy to use and built like a tank. I gig with it all the time and it really fits the sound that I was going for.
My advice is that if you are looking for a head at that price tag and you are playing rock, rock 'n roll, stoner, doom and that kind of stuff, then you do not need to look further. Of course (?), this is not a product for jazz, blues or metal players - all the rest will be very satisfied with this head. I know I am!

Great quality gigging amp
26.04.2015
This is a perfect amp for rock pub gigs etc, very good sound and quality for the price. Not so good price if you pair it with the Orange cabs which are horrendously expensive, so I got a Laney IRT 2x12 and they sound great together, more than loud enough.

I bought the matching channel foot switch that uses a guitar lead for the cable, good idea really as you can get the length you want, all together still works out cheaper than buying the head on its own from a UK retailer anyway.
A couple of people have asked me how much I paid for this amp as they assume it probably costs a grand or so!

How does it sound?
Well, the clean channel has a nice depth to it, very slightly muddy but I prefer that than to be bright sounding, after the volume is more than half then a nice natural distortion starts coming in, quite impressive, great for blues/rock in general.

The dirty channel now, loads and loads of gain, below half will give you AC/DC, Free, etc type classic rock crunch, above half will give you Sabbath etc, I wouldn't say Metal type of gain but more dirty fuzzy noisy gain, again quite impressive for a cheap solid state amp really.

You can run two cabs off this head, if you do so then make sure that each head is rated at 16 ohm, or you can run one cab rated at 8 or 16 ohms.
Great amp really.

Awesome head
comaunite, 10.02.2018
This SS head surprised the socks off of me. The tone on it is amazing. We play a mix of doom/sludge/stoner/post and I bought it to use for shows and studio rehearsals, running it as a pedal platform. It handles pedals greatly when ran through clean channel with pedals sitting infront of the amp (haven't tried the fx loop yet). But shit, when I turned the dirty channel on - it sounded so good! It was instantly sounding like the tone I was going for with my pedals. So now I think of experimenting with using dirty channel instead of fuzz pedals.
Literally the single con that I have with it, is that it isn't as loud as 30-45w tube head our other guitar player uses. We both played through 16ohm 4x12 cabs, and I had to crank my amp while he was a little past noon. Boosting the volume with my EQ pedal's gain knob helps tho. But it's something to consider when you're playing a loud band.

At the end of the day - you won't find a better sounding amp for the money. But it's loudness makes me consider getting an actual Rockerverb 50 in future
