Unfortunately no rival to push

28.09.2016
The Launchpad has been a constant in every studio that has been on Ableton for almost a decade and has been an integral part of every teenager who wants to crash into the music production or just want to play a few lightshows for a few years.

The 8x8 grid is iconic and offers access to many other parameters such as Sends Levels or Mute / Solo control. The Launchpad95 script also gave access to scales and a step sequencer - which was otherwise only possible with Ableton's push. Exactly here however the problem of the Pro:

The idea of ??the Pro, I first heard of it, pretty cool - the first demos looked terribly crass. Unfortunately, Novation has only been a little bit moved here rather than innovation - the Pro is a lightweight, which tries to land a lucky hit against Push. Push is twice as expensive and has knobs, so it is not suitable for backpacking. Like all Launchpads, the Pro is built in principle. Unfortunately also from inside:

There is hardly anything the pro can do better than an older launchpad in conjunction with the Launchpad95 script it does. Of course, the additional 16 round keys give an increase, but most of them could be controlled before. The scale mode is even worse than the one with Launchpad95 was already available forever. Novation has also saved on the Step Sequencer: there's no way. Fortunately, Henri David had decided to release a launchpad95-like script for the Pro too - but where is the advantage over the old Launchpads?

Also on the topic Knobs I was somewhat disappointed: I have expected that due to the intensity of a button print a fader signal can be sent, so I can adjust stepless. Unfortunately, "fader" in the Pro function exactly as with the Launchpads before, the stop intensity only regulates how fast the value is to be reached, so transitions are somewhat "softer". Instead of stepless regulation, only 8 different values ??between 0 and 127 are available.

The buttons themselves are a huge upgrade compared to the old launchpad buttons, which could click and bounce 1-3 times per hit (was never able to understand what they were thinking). But more than 4 bars I would not want to drummen, the buttons feel slightly better than those of the machine mk1, but are also half as big. To play pure notes, they are quite suitable, if one takes in purchase, that one has to exert some pressure before the attack is registered. To the clip start unfortunately the pressure point is missing but that is meckern on a high level. Perhaps there is some mode-dependent haptic feedback: D The round buttons "click" exactly the same as the S.

Conclusion: The pro could have become a madness product, a push without display. Unfortunately, it does not even contain the functionality of an open-source script, which puts the old Launchpads functionally over the Pro. This script is now also available for the Pro, but it is sad that Novation has left any gap open. Of course, colorful buttons are beautiful - but I would advise for the above reasons, either an old Launchpad of Ebay, or an Ableton Push 2 at Thomann to order. Push 2 comes to my desk as soon as Ableton 10 is out and until then I will use my old Launchpad with Launchpad95 (almost) exactly as I did with the Pro over a few days.

3 stars are perhaps too little but 4 stars ("satisfied") are definitely too much. If Novation had done a few homework, 4 would have been easy. So it really depends very much on what you want to start with the product and whether an old Launchpad with Launchpad95 is enough, or the Push 2 is the better choice. I hope the review could provide a balanced impression for the people who have already owned a launchpad.

Great little tool

30.06.2016
I use it to create music. Touch pads. I value it as one of the best products to create music, along with audio programs, such as ableton, it is true that you have to master both tools to achieve impressive results. Everything pros.nada against, perhaps the quality of the connectors, it seems to me of poor quality, the on and off novation launchpad does not convince me, nor does it agree with the quality product that is.
Good buy for those who are thinking of a tool to work in production and creation of songs, music, samples, etc ... for above all djs, producers, mixers to achieve very good results.
A highly recommended tool to have in your study.
