Amazing mic

I got it for quite some time now and i am writing my review now because i wanted to test it before i write anything.
At first look you can tell how pro the mic is. It is heavy (I have 2 more condenser mics, much cheaper than this) and there is no comparison. The tlm 103 is at least 2 times the weight of the others despite it is smaller in size.
I connect it to a class A preamp and it shines in recordings. Allready used it in vocals (both male and female) and acoustic guitars and the sources i got were phenomenal. It has a small boost from 5k hz+ but the eq with it was really easy (on male vocals i didnt even eq it cause i enjoyed that airy feeling it caught).
Picks up very low background noise behind it which was essential for me since i dont have a seperate room to turn into a booth.
To sum it all this is a highly recommended microphone. This will improve your sound sources by far compared to a cheap condenser mic.
P.S. It comes in a great wooden box to keep it safe and it looks amazing in my mic locker.

Neumann TLM 103: Hermano pequeño del U87!!!

El micrófono de condensador Neumann TLM 103 es una verdadera maravilla para los oídos y para la vista.
En esencia es una alternativa más económica al estándar de la industria del doblaje y la producción musical: el Neumann U87.
Os voy a resumir lo que considero más relevante de este súper-micro!
*LO QUE ME GUSTA:
-Presenta una claridad y naturalidad excelente para grabar voces solistas.

-Comparándolo en el estudio, realizando pruebas exhaustivas con los mismos previos
(Focusrite ISA 430MkII, TLA Audio y Universal Audio Solo 610) sin aplicar compresión y con los mismos parámetros, soy perfectamente capaz de diferenciar cual es el 103 y cual el U87.
Tienen un carácter y color muy parecido, con lo único que identifico al TLM103 es que presenta un ligero realce en las frecuencias en torno a los 6500Hz y 9000Hz, dando como resultado más presencia de las voces en la mezcla.

Técnicamente el 103 presenta 7dB de Ruido propio(el ruido que genera de manera interna sus componentes electrónicos) y el U87 produce 12dB, pero he de confesar que esto es inapreciable.Ambos valores son muy bajos y salvo en situaciones donde se grabe aplicando una fuerte compresión y captando fuentes débiles de sonido con niveles altos de ganancia, es prácticamente imposible distinguirlo.

-La sensibilidad es un poco menor que la del U87 en cardioide, pero nada que no se pueda compensar subiendo la ganancia 3 ó 4dB´s.
El efecto de proximidad es también muy parecido y se maneja muy bien con las frecuencias graves extra que se producen al acercar más al intérprete hacia la cápsula.

-Sinceramente, una vez procesada la voz, aplicando un poco de compresión y reverb,
en cuanto la mezclamos con la música, es dificilísimo distinguirlos.
Prácticamente imposible, de manera que estamos hablando de un micro de altísima calidad, que ofrece un sonido completo, con carácter Neumann, con presencia y sin estridencias y con un gran rango dinámico, soportando fuertes niveles de presión sonora.
Es genial también para grabar instrumentos, pero especialmente para voces: me encanta !!!

*LO QUE NO ME GUSTA O ME GUSTA MENOS:
-Quizás en contrapartida, ese pequeño realce de frecuencias medio-altas ayuda a producir más presencia y a generar un sonido más transparente pero con algunos cantantes he tenido que utilizar un de-esser para suavizar un poco las "eses".

-Y por último apuntar que seria deseable que incorporara un pequeño "switch ó conmutador para activar un filtro pasa altos.

RESUMEN:
Un micrófono de condensador de altísima calidad, posicionado correctamente (recomiendo un par de cm por debajo de la boca en interpretes con exceso de sibilancia o seseo) lograremos todo lo que se le puede pedir a un micro de estudio y más.

Überzeichnend und too much als Sprechermikrofon

In der Verwendung als Sprechermikrofon und vor dem Hintergrund, daß ich meine Aufnahmen überwiegend selbst nachbearbeite, ist mir die Übertragung mit diesem Mikrofon nur mit einem vielseitigen, analogen Kanalzug vernünftig nutzbar. In diesem Kanalzug braucht es einen guten, weich arbeitenden Kompressor, einen vollparametrischen EQ, mit dem man die charakterlichen Unarten des Mikrofons ausgleichen kann und nach Möglichkeit auch einen Expander, den man mit Verstand einsetzen muss. Die Rauscharmut ist natürlich super, wie auch die gesamte Haptik und Fertigungsqualität über jeden Zweifel erhaben ist. Das Neumann TLM 103 entlarvt allerdings jegliche akustische Schwäche eines Aufnahmeraumes und verzeiht keinerlei Schlamperei.
Vergleich zu anderen Mikrofonen:
Das Sennheiser MKH 416 klingt völlig anders und ist bauartbedingt ganz anders nutzbar, reagiert etwas weniger empfindlich auf räumliche Unstimmigkeiten. Auf Regelung in einem Kanalzug reagiert es partiell unerwartet mit Sprüngen in der Filterung von Frequenzen. Dagegen ist das TLM 103 regelrecht gutmütig und reagiert exakt und berechenbar.
Das Rode K2 als Röhrenmikrophon ist wegen seines insgesamt weicheren, nicht minder vollen Signals besser benutzbar und wegen der stufenlos einstellbaren Richtcharakteristika. Auf einen analogen, wirklich sehr guten Kanalzug mit den entsprechend einstellbaren Parametern reagiert es hervorragend und exakt

Gleichauf mit dem Rode K2 eignet sich bis dato und für meine Zwecke als Sprecher und mit meiner Stimme das Austrian Audio OC 818. Fast fertiger Klang, mit stark reduziertem Nachbearbeitungsbedarf, nicht harsch oder in irgendeinem Frequenzbereich überbetont, sehr ausgewogen und auch über Stunden äußerst angenehm zu hören. Die Unarten des Frequenzgangs in Nieren- oder Hypernierencharakteristik kann mann sehr gut ausfiltern und dadurch den Klang beruhigen.
