Great Sound

07.02.2017
If you want to use the excellent Maschine Library and Software this is the best way. You get a wonderful controller and a powerful groove machine. If you need a standalone system maybe you need the bigger controllers, but this rocks!!!!

Indispensable machine growth

Askal, 03.12.2016
I've been working with Jam for half a year now and can not imagine my work without the funny Matrixkiste after initial disillusionment. My machines are operated by Apple? S iMac (mid 2011, OSX 10.10), where everything worked right after the installation.

I had previously machine studio and have now added to the Jam and my workflow has improved massively! It takes some time until you realize which functions you work on which machine, also the memorization of the shift functions takes its time, but once you are in it, it just slips.

Disappointed, I was somewhat of the touch strips. These have proved to me little practical relevance in my everyday life. In the Perform mode, you can use them only for a handful of special effects, and with the melodic game over the strips, I have not really been able to befriend myself. But this is surely a matter of taste. Only for the operation of the Macroregler I use the Strips quite glad, since one can then synonymous effects and functions completely freely define themselves.

I was very pleased with the possibility of using the 64 buttons - if you set a ne key, you have quite a bit of octaves at the start and can be very creative. Since it is synonymous for the first time, that the buttons of course, not transmit any velocity dynamics. To the drauflosjammen it is enough. If the take was perfect, you can rework the dynamics and otherwise you play the found melody again with piano or the pads of the studio.

Otherwise, the 64 buttons are used to create patterns and scenes or to create beats in the step-mode - there is also a piano roll, but I am mostly neglected because I just like to play melodies by hand.

What is considerably faster and more comfortable than the big brother is the browsing through the meanwhile quite a lot of instruments. A push of a button and you can work with a clear overlay, finely solved using the D-pad and the rotary knob.

What I find a pity is the fact that Jam and Studio are too much linked. I can not use the Jam to control an instrument, while I control another with Studio. Somewhere I have times read that over an update still a few functions are released - I hope hard, that it goes then. One has to fairly say that it is not with the machine software primary, but there is the possibility to run a second instance via the DAW and then control each instance with a controller.

We do not need to talk about the processing, which is simply tiptop. Everything is worthwhile and looks so. The design is as minimalist as it is accustomed by NI. In my opinion would have for the price (as synonymous with the studio) a high-quality cover belonged. If you do not have a machine yet, you can not complain about the price, because NI still has the Komplete Select, which alone costs 180¤.

After my machine studio has its own display, I miss it in the jam not too much. But it would not have been bad. If you are well prepared, you can certainly play Livesets in the combination without having a monitor on the stage. Only with jam and calculator is that rather difficult.
In the studios, however, the jam is a decent workflow booster, which I no longer want to give.
