A great interpretation of the original

It has it in the name, this new version of the good old Carbon Copy has in brighter repeats indeed. Those who know the original will be pleased with the Bright version. Especially those who were not pleased with the warmer repeats of most analog delays but still don't want to go the digital rout. Modulation is cool and can be adjusted in on the inside of the pedal, which is nice!

The packaging was great as usual and the product itself has that sturdy construction that MXR, is known for.
Great overall analog delay pedal, without having to spend 300 euros or more.
I would highly recommend it.

Sounds strong, swallows repetitions, tonally too narrow-banded

AudioPhil, 12.04.2017
I've ordered a whole series of pedals to test for another delay.

It should be an analogue or analogue-hybrid pedal. Sound goal: warm and - what wonder - "analog" with the ability to lay large sound carpet, yet with enough definition of the repetitions, in order not to run in the band context.

The test candidates:
- Diamond Memory Lane Jr
- Diamond Quantum Leap
- Seymour Duncan Vapor Trail
- MXR Carbon Copy Bright

Comparative (digital):
- TC Alter Ego: great emulations of Echorec and DMM
- Obscura Altered Delay: class-clean to "broken" tape simulation
- Hardwire DL-8: altogether very good algorithms
- TC Flashback: good allrounder

As a result I was especially surprised by the Vapor Trail, which sounded very, very good, little noise, great use and an effect insert, especially aperious analog-warm repeats offers, nevertheless the good in the context audible (= defined ) are.
Absolute value for money! For me personally unfortunately something too "dark", so tonally deeply laid out.

The two Diamond pedals are definitely a class in itself!
The Oberknaller is definitely the Quantum Leap with its incredible range of functions (two delay types, flanger, chorus, comb filter) and the great Ramping mode. Tonally, one of the delays is VERY gloomy (with additional transient smearing). This - in connection with space-chorus-like modulation - creates huge, reverb-like sound unions. Perfect for ambient things!
The second delay of the Quantum Leap is similar to that of the more defined Memory Lane, but is also minimized. The comb filter is, in my opinion, superfluous, chorus and flangers range from moderate to crass.
It is a pity that the tap function does NOT work with the more universal, more defined delay, since the button controls the time / pitch ramp. Super annoying.

The Memory Lane Jr. is almost a bit "boring" in the function comparison, but really makes everything right! :-) Great, warm, but very defined delays in the tonally exactly correct frequency range ... not too narrowband ... Tap function, up to 1200 ms (!!) Delay time and practice-oriented divider (quarter, eighth, dotted Thorns, triplets) - all on board what you need.
The modulation is "more neutral" than the very three-dimensional of the quantum leap, but not worse.
Altogether the ML Jr. works perfectly in the context of other instruments, but also sounds solo "big" enough. Thumbs up!

Well, let's come to the most disappointing pedal for me: the Carbon Copy Bright.
In short, I have to say:
- the pedal rushes strongly. Jaa jaa, Bucket Brigade and so on and so on. But hey: it really REALLY strong. Twice as strong as the Vapor Trail.
-> It swallows repetitions: the last delays simply drown off. The Vapor Trail does not. Ok, the hybrid QL and ML Jr. do this too much, but much later and they rush to zero.
-> Now the killer: it just does not sound good. The repetitions are extremely narrow banded at CC Bright in a higher center range. They are therefore quite sharp "peck - peck" in contrast to the warmer "pock - pock" of the other pedals.
Very disappointing, especially to the course called!

It is possible that my test candidate made a mistake, but otherwise does not indicate anything. It worked. I am assuming that the CC Bright sound exactly as it sounds - and that is not very good from my point of view.

In the end, I have the Diamond Memory Lane Jr. for the above reasons. Yes, it is quite expensive, but it is also worth every cent of it.
The 1200 milliseconds give you every conceivable freedom, the tapping function in conjunction with the score dividers is great and - most importantly - it simply sounds excellent.

If you want to spend less, do not need Tapping and rather something darker darkens, the favorable Vapor Trail is suggested. Very good the "in time" flashing Delay-Poti!
