Moog MF-103

12-Stage PhaserOne of the best ways to provide a record with more life and movement, is the use of a phaser. With the MF-103 you can produce a number of interesting swirl, shimmer and vibration effects - simply complete new sound structures. The MF-103 can generate slow, fine phasing sounds on the one hand, which are on subliminal level. On the other hand it also generates fast sounds, so that the original sound of the instrument is unrecognizable.

  • Audio out L/R: For connection to a mixer or amplifier, par value of -4 dBm. Output impedance is 5 kΩ
  • AUX Out: Par value is -4 dBm, maximum level is +8 dBm, output impedance is 5 kΩ
  • Sweep in: For supply of an external signal. +/- 2.5 V for the second 6-stage phaser circuit, instead of the LFO input. The input impedance is 50 kΩ
  • LFO out: Provides LFO waveform (triangular waveform +/- 2.8 V) or to connect to other voltage controlled devices. The output impedance is 600 Ω
  • Sweep, resonance, rate, amount: For connecting the Moogerfooger EP-1 or an identical expression pedal as well as control voltages via mono or stereo jack
  • 9V: Power socket to connect the supplied 9 V AC power supply

I am so happy that I have discovered the Moogerfoogers, because they are simply the highest quality and most versatile, which I have so far learned about effects pedals.

On the one hand, there is the imposing appearance of the high-quality housing made of wood and metal and stable knobs and switches, which are twice as large as a conventional effect pedal. However, the factor of two is far from sufficient to describe the superior sonic quality and the flexibility of the adjustment possibilities, in order to be able to adapt both to the personal taste and the stylistic direction as well as to the instrument optimally. I play a 7-string fretless bass and so far had also with special effects for bass instruments declared my problems whether the powerful range of my instrument. This has changed since I used the Moogerfooger.

The deep modulation effects, especially the 12-stage phasers with high-pitched resonance and large modulation range, at the same time very low LFO frequency and the frequency range of the filter (sweep) adapted to the range of the deep bass is a sound that impressed me deeply My instrument to a tonal intensity, which I have yet heard of no other effect pedal or electronic multieffect. At the same time, the musicality and warmth of the sound always retains the upper hand, and nothing works (artificially or evenly, even with such extreme parameters). And you can still see the sound of the original instrument.

For a modal solo with a constant duration of the same tonality, another operating mode similar to the sound of a frequency modulator is available: Set the LFO frequency to the root of the solo chord (the LFO can be selected by the selector and rotary control between 0, 01 and 250 Hz) and simply loosen it. Even here, a musicality can not be denied to the overall sound, in spite of the frequency of a frequency-modulated sound that results.

All in all, I find the Moogerfooger to be the most flexible and best-sounding thing I've ever heard (perhaps apart from a real Moog synthesizer that was just invented in my youth and whose fascination I've already shed, but never afford such an instrument could). In conjunction with my 7-string fretless bass, this is a considerable extension of my sonic spectrum (certainly for every other electronic instrument), which provides a different sound, but always appropriate sound for each piece.
