True Marshall sounds

wrooted, 20.12.2017
Firstly, this is a solid state amp that costs a fraction of any Marshall valve amp, so expectations should reflect that. BUT...what a pleasant surprise! I have a TSL 601 so know how a good Marshall valve amp sounds. This modelling amp gets it....ok...it does not have the ''depth'' of a my TSL, but the twin 12inch speaker cab adds a good amount of depth that gets real close! So now this amp can give me a really good impression of my TSL, but in addition, I get all older models too - Plexi/Silver Jubilee etc- and all the 'pedals' I need built in too. If you need one sound, then stick to a valve amp that gives you your sound - but if you need more variety, and love Marshall sounds, then this is the baby.

Top equipment for top price Marshall Code 100

Axel Zabel, 11.12.2017
Immediately after receiving the Marshall Code 100 (Combo), I put it into operation. Already the first impression was correct. The design is well thought out, just the fact that the control panel is located on top of the amplifier, makes the operation easier.
And visually, the code 100 is an eye-catcher, for me anyway.
In addition to the usual controls for Gain, Treble, Midrange, Bass, Volume and Master Volume, it has very clearly arranged and intuitive controls. The really very meager manual could be faulted, but you do not need them in principle. You can start immediately. What is in it is helpful and in a nutshell.
The included presets sound full and professional. A few are simply designed to showcase FX and have the appropriate settings. They are hardly usable for songs. I replaced these presets with presets from the internet. It was also very easy, fast and fun. I downloaded a PC editor for the code, connected amp to laptop via USB and voila, I could preview and play the sounds on the amp before I had to save them! By the way, it was just a click and the sound was stored in the amp. So the entire operation: simple, purposeful and great!
The sounds vary a lot, which is no wonder, because many different amps are modeled, various boxes, and effects are included. And in studio quality! I especially like the fact that the various distortion never blast, but always sound transparent. Of course, this is also due to the style of play and the pickups. But I have tested with different guitars, with different equipment, also used active and passive pickups. The sound was always full and differentiated.
With some sounds and the associated distortion settings, one can influence the intensity of the distortion by the velocity of attack, which I was only able to experience in this quality with good tube amps. How Marshall did that with a fully digital amp, no idea. Modeling opponents is said to play this amp without prejudice and you will be surprised.
In summary, I can say: Sophisticated and appealing design, simple operation, great sounds, many ways to create your own individual sound, robust, studio and stage suitable. And that's exactly how I will use it.
