Way better than the price would suggest!!

Andrew1307, 21.01.2017
Received the MM V7 and was very pleased with the quality of materials, and the fantastic craftsmanship. I could not find any fault, or blemish at all. Set up was pretty much good to go. The range of sounds available should cater for pretty much most genres of music. I've been able to get some nice, smooth jazz/blues tones, and some very punchy ones that would have Phil Lynott smiling down from heaven. Works great in passive mode, but in active mode you are almost spoilt for tonal choice. I bought it primarily for rock and blues, and am more than happy.

The only very slight nit-pick was that the control knobs feel like real cheap plastic, but that's soon sorted. I guess the deciding question would be, would I buy another Marcus Miller Sire? Well, a week later I ordered an M7 4-string too. So a resounding YES!! Great basses :)

Can't afford a Fender? Sire have you covered

07.10.2016
First of all before anything else, being left handed, trying to find a decent bass that doesn't need modifying with new pickups or a preamp for a reasonable price is quite difficult. I've owned a number of Warwick Rockbass, Peavey, Tokai and Ltd bass guitars, favouring the 5 string models above others and I've found that I've always had to add something on to them. I've always wanted a Fender Jazz 5 but Fender don't make them or Squire for that matter. The closest bass I have to Fender Jazz 5 is a Peavey Millenium BXP 5 and that was loaded with EMG Jazz 5 pickups to make it sound halfway decent that I had to buy separately. That is until Thomann delivered the Marcus Miller v7.
The versatility of this bass is incredible. The 18v preamp packs so much power I found myself having to turn down the volume on the bass (had it on full in passive but around 2-3 in active) and being able to dial in that perfect tone on the bass itself with out having to fiddle around with my amp settings ( I ran it through a peavey tko 115 combo amp) was very satisfying. I normally use a bass guitar with less controls, 1 volume dial per pickup and a tone dial, so I was a little worried about all the extra controls on this bass (7 if you count the active/passive switch) but after messing around with it for about 4 minutes my worries disappeared.
Having seen many interviews with Marcus Miller about the V7 I have to completely agree with him - the Mid cut/boost controls is essential. I play in a heavy rock covers band and this guitar is making us as a band sound better. Favouring pick over finger style, I've dialed in a tone that gives a warmth and deepness to the low end that sometimes gets lost when using a pick.
The finish is very smooth especially on the neck, having found that lacquered necks in the past are more difficult to move around on with out hitting sticking points on the palm or thumb, I was very happy not to find this problem here.
The weight of the bass is reasonable, coming in at just over 9lbs, I own a Tokai Thunderbird that weighs over 11lbs and is very neck heavy so I compare any new bass to that and the V7 is very comfortable in comparison.

My only cons about this bass are really personal preferences. The action was very low on arrival so needed some tweaking to hit that sweet spot for me. Also the control dials can be a bit tricky to get used to at first, especially with the stacked pots but you can always swap them out for that personal touch.
The price point is your big seller here: I ordered mine with the Marcus Miller Gig Bag (highly recommended for the price, the quality is superb) and paid just over £500. This bass is easily worth twice maybe 3 times that price in terms of how it feels. Don't let the fact that this bass is made by a Korean company or that it doesn't have a bigger name like Gibson, Fender or ESP on the headstock fool you, this a solid instrument for beginners or seasoned bass aficionados.

Final point: other than the Sire website, Thomann is the only website that stocks this instrument and living in the UK, I ordered Monday morning and recieved Friday morning of the same week. 5 days to get a guitar from Germany to the Isle of Wight? Incredible
