Lovely bass

DBband, 23.11.2016
I?ve had it now for over a week! White, alder.rosewood! I think everything has been said on the other reviews and I have to agree with them! The bass came playable out of the box, good inonation! One of the screws in the neck joint looked as if it had been a little abused and was a little rough and there are a few marks on the rosewood neck like slight stains! Not a problem for me! I don?t even notice them! The rest is all good! Beautiful bass, lovely finish, very well made! I spent a little time to set up the action and truss rod! It didn?t take so long, some basses have taken me years until I?m totally happy! ! This one is perfect now! I have found two sounds (I rarely need more) with the preamp on, which sound really great and the passive sounds are also very good! A great sounding bass indeed! I don?t know what the single coils will be like on a big stage, I like to favour the neck pup rolled off a bit! In my small studio at low levels I don?t notice any hum (unless I turn my distortion on), but of course it?s always there with single coils not 50/50! I do hope this won?t be a problem because I love the sound of the bass and it?s now pretty much the bass I pick up most of the time! I will definately be ordering a fretless and will most likely put noiseless pups in that (mostly bridge pup on fretless)! I?ve got a few basses and some very nice ones, original 62 jazz and 68 precision and various others and this sire is the one I?m reaching for when I practise! I love it! Thanks Thomann for stocking them and as always for great service! Whether you are starting or like me been playing for many years, check them out!
Update;
So six months later......
(1) The bad screw at the neck joint can?t be moved...hope I never need to take the neck off
(2) The 8th and 9th frets on the G string buzz however I adjust the action and neck.......I play very lightly so it ?s okay but I?m always aware of it
(3) After about 4 small changes to the truss rod, the allen key rounded out??.......Luckily I have another one the same size........It?s okay now and I hope I never have to adjust it again.
(5) The E tuning key is very stiff in places!
Other than that it?s a nice looking bass and easy to play, and it sounds pretty good, but If I?d seen these things sooner I probably would have sent it back! I know they are good value basses but it takes the pleasure out of playing it somewhat!
I was thinking about getting the fretless but I?m really not sure anymore!

Update august 2018:
Okay so the e-tuner didn?t work any more! I put a tuner from a squier bass on it and it works fine! The g string wouldn?t go any lower so I put a shim under the neck join! Now it?s playing like it should! The action is low and no fret buzz any more! I?m enjoying it at last! I bought the FL jast year and it?s very good and I have no problems with this one!

The hype is real!

21.09.2016
What's there to say that hasn't been said already? The bass is amazing for the price. There were no surprises - the bass feels and sounds exactly as I expected, comparing to what I've seen and heard through video reviews and tests.

What impressed me the most is the sound. It even sounds great unplugged (very airy), and both active and passive modes work great. I believe that it would do very good if put to blind test with much more expensive jazz basses.

The build quality is beyond this price category. The fretwork, blocks and binding, finish, choice of woods - all good! The neck has some of the most beautiful maple I've seen, very clean, and the fretboard is really dark rosewood, looks almost like ebony when oiled with lemon oil.

Playability is good, exactly what you would expect from a jazz bass. The neck is a standard jazz bass c shape with the usual 38mm nut width.

I really like the pickups, and the active 18v preamp is very versatile. Even in passive mode you can get everything from Jaco-esque bridge tone to bright Miller-like slap.

Now, there are some downsides, but they are mostly based on personal preference:

- the bridge - I don't like the big saddles. They are quite massive, but the rest of the bridge is no different from a standard vintage like bridge. Because of the size and length of the saddles it's hard to use string through bridge option - it puts quite the angle on some strings (especially low e string since it's closest to the hole when intonated properly). Second - 20mm string spacing. A lot of jazz and precision basses have 20mm spacing, but I would like it if it was just a tad bit tighter (19mm - also a standard) or adjustable. I know it's asking for much in this price range. The good thing is that saddles can be changed cheaply to vintage ones with multiple grooves.

- 7.25" radius along with flat pickups. This is a thing that many jazz basses suffer from, especially vintage or vintage-like ones. I have nothing against small radius, but when combined with pickups that have flat pole pieces you end up with inevitable difference in string to string volume, outer e and g strings being noticeable louder than the middle a and d strings. I knew that this would be an issue, but for the price this is something I can live with.

In conclusion, this is a fine piece of instrument at a very affordable price. The overall build and sound quality you get is unmatched in this price category.
