Downed version of the "big brother" even after price increase still a good purchase

siriussurfer, 26.02.2017
As owner of a five-string V7 I was highly pleased with the quality, which one for 539 ¤ received. Since he slides easily from the thigh when sitting (without a belt), I was interested in an alternative and found the M series. Unfortunately the M7 was not available, so I decided for its smaller brother M3. Because I was a bit late, I had to pay 49¤ more than my Vorrezensensenten. If it is due to the dollar price, Sire has increased the prices or it is a consequence of the high demand - I do not know. However, the M3 is worth the money. If you buy the gigbag, this is a total of 467¤.

Delivery thomanntypically very fast, ordered on Friday evening, on Monday there. And informed about every step. Exemplary.

The differences to the M7 are: saddles made from TUSK (a kind of artificial ivory) instead of bones, trussrod covers made of plastic instead of wood, body made of mahogany instead of alder or ash. The latter must not be a disadvantage, after all, the most expensive Paulas are from this wood. The ceiling is made of maple, but much thinner than the big brother, as it seems. The Humbucker pickups are not splittable, unlike the M7, they can be operated individually or together with a cross-fader.

The M3 is impeccably varnished, the neck thin and dull, very comfortable to hold. He looks filigree, almost too thin for my circumstances (big hands, wide fingers). The mechanics are more stable than those of the V7 and keep the tuning flawless.

The design is pleasing and modern. The "nose" at the lower end disparaged in some forums corresponds to the tip on the head plate. I like it very much.

I could not test all scenarios soundally, only so much: the sound control is a force. Above all, the parametric midrange control (200 Hz to 1 KHz) has done it to me. Together with the bass and treble cut / boost knobs, you can achieve the best possible performance in the band (also against the keyboard). Really very versatile.

The M3 makes me very happy. About the small "defects" as noted by a predecessor (cheap acting controllers etc.) can be overlooked at the price. Oh yes - and he does not slip away as easily as the V7 during the game sitting. As shown in Fig.

Conclusion full score.

But I still have to get rid of a small drop of vermouth: Dear Thomanns and women, but please take a little more care with quality assurance. The g-string snapped frightfully in the first covenant. I was thinking of going back, until I noticed the too straight neck and the too low strings. Set and everything was great. For an absolute layman, this would presumably lead to a negative judgment, for which the manufacturer can do nothing.

All in all a great bass.

24.10.2016
- Optics and haptics are excellent, only the potis are cheap. But with that one can live, especially with regard to the price. What is annoying, however, are the double pots. Unfortunately, the 'lower' controls rotate when the 'upper' knob is turned and vice versa (this only happens if the respective knob is in the middle position).
Sound: above all doubt. Of course, it is not a jazz bass or a pre-humbucker, but it's a taste. Both PU's differ significantly in the sound: Bridge-PU rather 'round depth', Neck-PU very knorrig. Decent, very low noise output (18V electronics).
- Adjustment: Octave purity was excellent adjusted, only the neck curvature had to be corrected with the included Allen key, since the bass was initially unplayable (neck was slightly curved backwards -> strings were located on the damping, for example, on the 3rd Bund also on higher frets on). After the correction (only 2 quarters of a turn of the screw), the string position could be set very low.
- Playability: Very good (after correction of the neck curvature and the string position)
