It's a good beginners keyboard

20.02.2017
At this point I am still a 'hobby' type of user, so my review is based on a less professional experience.

Got the midi when I decided to start learning to play, a year ago. It is a good, affordable tool if you're unsure of what to get and if you're still trying to figure out if piano is your thing.

I used it with a DAW (FL and Ableton), together with several free and bought plugins/VST, recorded and practiced on it. The use of it is extremely simple, just plug in the USB and you're good to go, software instantly reacts to it. I didn't notice any delay while playing at all. If there is one, it is really not noticeable.

It's relatively light, easy to transport, with a laptop its pretty much all you need. Together with ofc headphones or speakers.

The keys are not as similar to a digital piano (or an acoustic one, obviously) as I would like, it IS definitely a different feeling. This is to be expected though. But it is still playable and good enough to start off with. However, after starting piano lessons on my tutor's Yamaha (dig. piano) I decided to switch up and get one of those myself.

The functions that M-Audio has (top left buttons, 'advanced') stopped working after a few months, without me even using them. They are not essential to me though, so I did not bother replacing the midi.

OVERALL,
I would say the midi is a good buy, decent price for what it can do. It is very flexible and a good way to find out what you really want/need, without spending too much. To express your passion and creativity.

If you're after a better experience with the keys, I would suggest getting something else. If you're looking for something good enough, that can do the job, still in a good price range, this midi is the way to go. I do not regret getting it.

Great Controller!

13.12.2015
M-Audio products are the ones that combines cost and quality, maybe not top quality but it is a great controller to have if you don't have a midi controller.

Goes over USB (directly to computer) or MIDI through a sound card, but in both cases works perfect without any trouble for your DAW, I use Logic and Ableton and immediately you are playing with it.

Full weighted keys are good-average but not the best in the market, but that's ok if you don't want the weaker feel of usual synths types of keys, for the price it is a great controller but with the limitations of being accessible.

If you are (or used to be) a piano player/student, etc, then you will obviously notice that keys are still artificial and weak weight feeling when you play, sensitivity is good but still the weight is fundamental to improve the expression of playing specially piano sounds, but this apply only for very specific users that comes from a vast acoustic piano background.

Rest assured that you won't notice this weight effect if your goal is to play with synths or any other type of sounds that will not require to vary pressure and velocity for the expression of performance.

In terms of buttons comes with the usual, octave up and down, pitch bend and modulation wheel and volume control, nothing too fancy but does the job.
