Perfect for recording guitar in a studio environment
I was bouncing back and forth over whether to purchase this or a Kemper. To be honest with all of the models available on the internet and in a special Christmas offer with Line6 direct for the full 50 amp catalogue for free, I decided on this unit and was not disappointed.

I know the 500X is much cheaper and has the the same processing as the rack unit but this will never leave the studio, will not go n the road and has all the input / output flexibility I need, so to me it was worth the extra 200 or so ¤.

I have a fairly large collection of pedals which I was not really wanting to get rid of and now I have this unit .... I still don not want to get rid of them. Not because of the lack of ability of this unit to 'mimic' them, but I like my pedals and the 'organic' feel to changing the sound without going into menus. But I have to say using my pedals with this unit is also so simple. I use this as a direct replacement for my amps and cabs for recording and nothing else. I still have my signal booster and OCD and Tube Screamer going into the input and run the rest of my pedals in the stereo effects loop. I use the the noise canceller after the input and that is it. Perfect recorded sound with out the hastle of lugging amps, cabs and mics around.

How many people need more than 50 modelled amps and cabs? before this I made do with my single combo so with this you have all the emulations you need.

The menus are very easy to use and you can get the sound you want very quickly, the PC software to also customise makes the process even quicker.

The unit itself is built like a brick, and with the software to do everything remotely, it is out of the way doing its job.

Since this is still half the price of a Kemper I think this is a bargain for what you get and especially in a studio situation, the modelled amps and cabs are very good. Most guitar sounds are buried in a mix so it would take a very good ear if possible to distinguish between the sounds this unit makes and the real deals, whatever people say.

excellent upgrade
Simoco, 09.07.2014
I purchased the HD PRO X after being an owner of the original HD500 model for some years. I needed to "rehome" my kit into a rack space and this was the logical conclusion. Looks absolutely the part and is quality. I did have some issues initially because of the additional line vs mic level adjustments available on the back of the unit, but once I fixed those, it has been great. Interfacing to other pro gear has been a breeze and sounds great.
