Kurzweil Forte 88

17.11.2014
There are very few user reports on the Kurzweil Forte so I thought I?d write up a bit of my initial experiences.

But first I would like to thank Thomman team for their excellence in communication, fast shipping and the best price offered. I looked everywhere for a better price and no one came close to Thomman price.

Overall I would say I am impressed with the keyboard and that it has arguably the best samples of any portable keyboard currently available. I have never found an stand alone keyboard that could come close to the sound of my software Ivory collection of keyboards but that was what I was after. I would say the Forte does that, or at least comes very close with their 9 foot grand. The ?16 gig? of samples do really produce excellent sounds, particularly in the acoustic and electric pianos. I would not say the sounds are extraordinarily better than other top keyboards from Roland, Nord, etc.. They don?t blow the others out of the water but I do hear a difference with these larger sample files.

A lot of the Multi instruments are very nicely executed as well. All the samples are very rich and with 16 gig you layer some very complex sounds. I have been a fan of all the Kurzweil sounds for many years. The layout of knobs and sliders and their functions is very nice and facilitates changes and selections in live performance. There?s a lot of customization that can be done quickly and easily. I am finding it really comfortable and quick for live performance. The split and layer capabilities are easy to use and produce superb results. The interface is a joy to work with. The ?flash play? is quick, especially compared to say the 2600.

Just for me!

Karsten V., 01.12.2016
The Forte replaces with me the good old PC3, which has fascinated me for years because of the sound and the almost endless functionality and edibility on the stage as well as in the music production in the domestic studio. At some point, however, I began to struggle with the pianosound, which did not please me particularly in the middle position.

The two gigabyte piano samples from the Forte are the right answer to it and, in my opinion, really put everything in the shade, which can be found in other keyboards on grand piano. The Rhodes samples sound absolutely authentic and resemble the real instrument down to the last detail. The organ sounds are also significantly improved compared to the PC3. Programs from the PC3 can be loaded easily and sound as expected.

What I find in short synonymous, is great, is that the functionality of the instruments by software updates with the time more and more. This is also the case with the Forte. In the global settings you can choose between two user profiles -? Regular? Or? Advanced? - choose. In regular mode, the instrument - as described in the original product descriptions - acts like an easy-to-use stage piano, which allows you to create multi-tones with 4 zones and change simple sound parameters or controller settings. You do not even have to dive into the depths. There are quite a few things left with the already well-used sliders and buttons.

In the advanced mode, you have up to 16 zones available, access to the full sound editing as with the PC3 and you can load up to more than 3 gigabytes of samples. With the help of the well-structured large color display, this is outstanding on the device. But you can also use an editor software, which is now available for the iPad.

In addition, the Forte has a versatile editable arpeggiator and step sequencer function. The material input via the audio input can now also be processed with the excellent effects of the Forte.

With the well repetitive keyboard of the Forte, piano sounds can be played just as pleasant as organ and synthesizer sounds. In the case of the KB3 organ sounds, the triggering point of the keys is somewhat higher, so that organs can be played particularly easily. This is nowhere documented, although Kurzweil with this feature could easily indicate. As a perpetual evil instrument for pianists, the keyboard is not suitable because of its rather light weight.

I needed to get used to the design. While the PC3 is a comparatively slim board with organic curves, the Forte is quite monstrous and angular. It is also somewhat longer and much higher built, so I had to buy a new bag. In contradiction to this, the support surface is very narrow, so that you can get problems with many common keyboard stands. Recommended is the model? Rick? By König and Meyer, which has displaceable rubber pads and thus also for small? Keyboards.

Finally, I would like to thank the excellent Thomann Service, who is always on hand to help with problems and questions.
