I've not used the TC Electronic tuners, but I'm very happy with this one for quite a bit less money
The polytune function is seriously handy between songs, give your guitar a quick strum and it shows you what's out. If you want to see each string individually, just pluck them one by one and it switches to single string mode in a flash. Intuitive and extremely useful.
When engaged, it mutes the guitar signal, so don't expect to tune a string mid-solo. Personally, I find this very useful as I switch instruments a lot mid-song and I don't have to use a kill-switch on my guitar anymore, which I would occasionally forget to disengage before belting out an embarrisngly silent power chord!
I've used it electric guitars, basses and electro-acoustic guitars. It works great with them, bar the following caveats.
Three things to note: it seems to work better with the neck pickup on my Les Paul, the bridge pickup on my Strat and the polytune function seems to pick up a 5th string on my cheapo 4-string bass. As such, I tune bass one string at a time.
Some reviewers say it's hard to see the display in full sunlight. I tested it myself and, although it's harder to see, I could still see it well enough to tune quickly.
It has a handy 9V out on the back as well, which is great for powering other pedals.
I'm very pleased, in fact I can't believe I didn't buy one of these years ago. Plus, it looks really cool!
