Excellent piano.

kwazar, 17.02.2018
We got this to replace Yamaha YDP-143 which had been great first piano for over a year. I knew we will have to upgrade at some stage and we went for Kawai. We are very happy with it now.
It has much nicer feel and looks better too. LCD makes a big difference. Sound is fuller too but some instruments sounded better in Yamaha I think.
The amount of voices in Kawai is overwhelming and a bit unnecessary I think. Initially it was fun to play with them but now we have no use for them. It might change though as we progress with our lessons.
All in all excellent product. I think we will keep it for good few years before we feel any need to upgrade again.

Nice instrument

f.a., 18.12.2017
I have to pretend that I've been a guitarist for 25 years but have not been a practiced piano player so far. So my goal was to play piano as a seasoned hobby musician who used to play some keyboard or piano in the past, but without routine. Ie. one should consider this aspect when reading my review.

After I read a lot and compared it to other models (cheaper and more expensive, from other manufacturers, etc.) on the Internet, I finally chose the Kawai CN 37. However, I did not have the electric piano tested on site. After all, I can say after about 3 months that I am quite satisfied.

Meanwhile, I can already play a few lighter pieces such. B. "For Elise" by Beethoven, the 1st Gnossiene and 1st Gymnopedie by Erik Satie, a piano-arranged version of "Jesus abide my joy" by Bach, etc.

Keyboard:
According to acquaintances, who are experienced piano players, the most important criterion when buying an electric piano. The keys of the CN 37 are made of plastic with the so-called Ivory Touch surface. So far my personal experience with keyboard instruments has been mainly with keyboards and occasionally with (cheaper) acoustic pianos of friends. Ie. It's hard for me to judge if it feels exactly like a real grand piano or not. The keys are rather difficult, but I personally think that's very good or at least I feel like it should be in a good acoustic piano or grand piano. Meanwhile, I have played the rather cheaper acoustic piano of my sister-in-law again and immediately missed the keyboard of my electric piano? the keys from her piano were too easy for me! But it can also be that the keys of the CN 37 are generally rather heavy?

Sound:
The slightly finer pitch of 25 years of playing makes me say that it does not sound 100% like an acoustic piano, but of course I did not expect that. Nevertheless, the sound is very good and very realistic in my opinion. There are also different piano sounds, which at first glance did not sound so successful. In the meantime, I have played real pianos in one or the other music house and found that the simulation of the CN 37 is actually very good. Of course, not all possible piano sounds are included, but I am very satisfied with the available selection. The power of 20 watts per speaker is ideal for the living room. Before, I thought about buying another model, which had only 2 x 6 watts to offer. Although I have not tested this model, the 6 watts from the other model seem to me to be too little after the experience with the 20 watt speakers from the CN 37.

Headphone:
An integrated headphone holder directly under the keyboard is included and I find that very convenient. The sound over the headphones is also very good. I find the different settings ("closed, open, semi-open headphones" or "front or wide sound", etc.) particularly successful. You can also adjust the volume of the headphones separately, so that headphones with high impedance (like mine) can be used easily.

pedals:
The reaction of the pedals I find very impressive. For example, if you do not play anything and step on the right pedal quickly, you will hear a (very) soft sound that mimics the lift off of the dampers in a real grand piano. The pedaling / stepping of the pedal is imitated in my opinion very realistic, z. For example, if you play a note with a pedaled pedal, release the pedal, and quickly step on it, the note continues to sound a little more quiet, the way you (I) would expect in an acoustic piano. Probably other models can do exactly the same, but in the CN 37 these subtleties seem to me to be very successful.

Optics / Processing:
For me, the look was an important criterion in the purchase, because we wanted to put the piano in the living room, so it should also be part of the decoration. The CN 37 is a real eye-catcher! Looks very good and the rosewood finish fits perfectly with our living room. For this cheaper models were in my opinion not so nice or have looked too much for digital piano. For example I wanted as few digital buttons and knobs as possible, but at the same time also enough available functions. For this, the CN 37 is a very good compromise, since the controls are very inconspicuous. Concerning. I was not able to detect any scratches, dents, rough edges or the like in my copy.

Conclusion:
A very nice instrument for a reasonable price! Probably experienced piano players will be very satisfied with the CN37. My personal goal was to start with an electric piano and switch to an acoustic piano in the medium term. Meanwhile, I have the impression that if I want to have an acoustic piano that is at least on the level of the CN 37 both in terms of sound and keyboard, I will probably have to dig deeper than previously thought.
