Only very conditionally recommendable

Dirk E. 764, 16.09.2012
Since I could not decide, I was in Treppendorf to test all the models in question (restriction: depth should not be bigger than 40 cm). I've been swinging back and forth for a long time, but I've been stuck in the end at the Kawai. Reason: The soft-responsive touch dynamics, or in other words, one can play with it really quiet, gentle sounds. For all other (well-known) manufacturers, the jump between too light stop (no sound) to the first (then quite loud) sound was just too hard.

Otherwise the Kawai shines but little:

-The internal speakers sound dull, which is partly because they radiate downwards. To play without headphones one should therefore the signal necessarily over monitors or similar. to steer.
-The only outputs to pick up the signal are two headphone jacks (two because there is a teacher-student mode). Otherwise there is only MIDI in and out.
-language control, there is no, only one reverb is adjustable.
If you choose a different sound than the standard, the constant flashing of an LED is annoying
-The setting of all functions (learning mode, demosongs, sound, metronome, recording, etc.) is done by only 6 buttons + keyboard and is correspondingly hackneyed, the manual should be left for a while.
-The device forgets all settings when switching off, no possibility to save the settings.
-It is a whole series of exercises stored, but the notes are not included or can be downloaded at Kawai. Information from the support: These would be pieces for which every pianoforte pupil would have the notes anyway. (I personally knew none of it).

Conclusion:
The CL36 is suitable for pianos playing over headphones or an external system. To play without amplification or anything that goes beyond the pure piano playing, better look for something else.

The "standard" sound is somewhat artificial

SteveD, 03.02.2012
Much more realistic playing feeling with respect to the touch and surface of the keys, but unfortunately a slightly less realistic sounding default sound than the previous model CL30 ,,,
