great sounding microphones in an elegant shape.

I use these microphones for soooo many applications. They work great as drum over heads or close cymbal mics, piano micing, and ive used them as crowd mics on literally hundreds of live recordings!

Never a problem always a pleasure!

Magnetic capsules are a nice touch!

High quality design and great sound!

Rico aus D., 23.11.2012
After so far few, but nevertheless very promising tests on the Internet, or relevant technical literature, I decided to order the stereopaar at Thomann and test myself.
The JZ BT 201 are first of all characterized by the special design of the small diaphragm. For the design no less than the Lithuanian Mikrofonguru Juris Zarin is responsible, who is already responsible for the well-known Violet series with predominantly high-quality vintage microphones. If one believes as the enclosed certificate, the microphones are all handmade in Lithuania and individually surveyed and examined. The first impression confirms this, 1A quality ... already when unpacking!

The first impression of the mics was very high quality and consistently positive. The mics were delivered in a box of fine wood. The processing of the microphones is impeccable, they are quite heavy in hand and are of very good processing quality. However, care must be taken that this stereoset is supplied without accessories (microphone clamps, stereo bars, windscreen, etc), which is usually supplied with other sets in the standard.

How do the chopsticks in Praxistest sound now?
I have tested them extensively in the last few weeks in different environments and situations, both in Studio / Home and Live.
The overall impression is very positive, which ultimately led to the decision to keep the microphones for future use.
The mics play their strength clearly in the acoustic range. They dissolve very finely, making them a very good figure both as Drum OH and when using individual acoustic instruments. Particularly brilliant are the recordings of sheet metal and woodwind instruments. Drum recordings sound rather light, but fresh and pleasantly airy. The individual cymbals shine in almost every recording (without the hammers sounding harsh or silvery). The special construction of the microphones (spot-gold-vaporized membrane) can certainly play their full strength here. I therefore recommend the mics for special use in the jazz / fusion / folk or classical range.
If you want more pressure, just in rock, pop or drum'n bass range so I would advise to other microphones. Here, for example, the Octavas MK012 with their dark timbre are a much better choice. Overall, the JZ has a consistently pleasant, not too dominant bass, which however depending on the purpose of use can also lead to the recordings a bit thin, or for my taste tendentially too bright. The recordings sometimes lack some warmth and sound, which, for example, are never lost in a Neumann K184 or Beyerdynamic MC950 despite all the detail. But here we are again in another price class.
Furthermore, it was to be noted that the microphones have a quite low output power, one had to turn the respective preamplifier already significantly higher in order to reach approximately the same level of a Rhode NT5, Oktava MK012 or AKG 351B. The microphones are however extremely low noise, disadvantages because of the lower output power I could not find in the practice use.

So if you like the dark, earthy or a thoroughly warm sound, this JZ will not be happy in every way. If you prefer the more modern, slightly brighter and more brilliant sound, these mics will surely be immediately enthusiastic. I would not describe them as the classic "allrounders" in the area of ??the small diaphragm, but they are definitely worth a recommendation for the acceptance of acoustic instruments with high detail - accuracy (eg saxophone, piano, drums, percussions) Live use) incredibly much out.
Most likely, the JZ BT-201 may be compared to the Rhode NT5, but the impulse behavior, the noise behavior and the resolution is still a tad more high-quality.
All in all, these microphones offer an excellent price-performance ratio as regards processing and sound. The usual accessories could be expected for this price.
