V4 with tighter strains and second gain days
sanlight, 20.11.2017
If you are looking for a low-mid-gain overdrive that adds a bit of "dirt" to your guitar playing, you should take a closer look at the Morning Glory V4.

I have to admit, it was not "love at first sight". After unpacking, I was quickly disappointed. The first try with a Strat was sobering. For reference, I have the boss BD2. And I have to say, the BD2 can compete very well in the discipline "low-gain overdrive with a lot of transparency and a little dirt".

Only after I had played the MG for a long time and then switched back to BD2, I could hear the differences better. The Morning Glory is less fizzy in the heights, which had always bothered me with the BD2, for example, from 12h gain. At higher gain settings, the morning glory tightens and clears up more clearly and better. The bass part is also dossiert less and I personally like better. Chords sound much cleaner, more defined and more "Marshall like". Especially with the intermediate position pickups on the Stratocaster, the nuances were best heard. Simply wonderful for rhythm guitar playing.

The clear sound of the Morning Glory combines well with Delay Pedals. Often, especially ground steppers with slight distortions lose their characteristic sound structure and blur in the delay cloud - not with the Morning Glory!

In general, the Morning Glory is very cooperative with other ground forces such as compressors or overdrives (eg TS Styles). In the latter, they give the overall distortion the extra bite in the treble without shrill sound.

If the pedal is too high in height, you can optionally switch on the high-cut filter on the side and dampen it a bit, but it loses a lot of openness.

In version V4, JHS changed the volume and gain structure. Compared to its predecessor V3, it has significantly more volume and headroom, with more tug. Distortion has definitely improved as it is more defined and less pointed compared to V3.

Also new is the additional gain days, which can be operated by means of a toggle switch or an external pedal. Ultimately, it's a volume boost, because the character of the two Gainstages does not change.

Conclusion:
while the Morning Glory V3 could not take the place on my pedalboard because the Boss BD2 defended it very well for half the price, the V4 convinced me after a long time. The much tighter strain, great attack dynamics and the additional gain days have been the deciding factor. Provided you like the typical Bluesbreaker sound and are willing to pay the extra charge for the last 10% better sound!

Perfect overdrive
Razzmaster, 12.05.2018
For the (reasonably) transparent, Boss Blues Driver sound. Dynamic and versatile, and even more if you use the red remote to switch the 2 gain setting. The bright mini switch is also handy. Recommended.
