Valid and detailed monitors if treated properly.
PTOPRoJect, 16.04.2019
I purchased these monitors to be able to use them in combination with a mobile recording system.
The characteristics indicated are of all respect and the weight is quite limited. There were no online reviews so I tried them myself.

When they arrived I compared them with my fixed systems (including a truly coaxial Tannoy system.

Trying with about thirty audio files of all kinds, I immediately found that the lower part of the spectrum is definitely emphasized and very "boomy".
Furthermore, many instruments and voices are not very focused.
I have changed several positions, supports on which to place them and distance from the listening point, but substantially maintain these characteristics.

I then tried to analyze them quickly with a test microphone and equalize them directly in the DAW based on the results.
It turns out to have two beautiful resonances between 100 and 200Hz, surely daughters of the rear reflex chords and the poor internal volume.
By eliminating them, the JBLs come back to life and show details that were absolutely lost before.

I also found a nice hole between 1Khz and 2KHz and that too was restored, the feeling of out of focus disappears and the detail increases further,
a sign that the components used are valid but perhaps the acoustic project is a bit daring.

There is enough power and dynamics for the most common uses to which they are addressed.

In substance they are desk cases but they sound better if raised on a separate platform to bring them to ears height, since they cannot be tilted.

If you have a fixed system, like a second monitor, maybe equalized separately based on the location, for the price they are a good buy.

If you are looking for a plug & play monitor that also helps with important choices, I would avoid them.

PRO:
- economic
- (with EQ) good tonal yield and sufficient power
- excellent in / out connections
- frontal volume (comfortable comfortable)

VERSUS
- they cannot be tilted and suffer much from table reflections.
- (without EQ) quite unbalanced to a boombox use;
- unusual and impractical movement (take them through the reflex hole to move them safely because they seem to get out of hand)
- transportable practically only inside their box with shaped polystyrene. I didn't dare put them in a bag or other soft container.

Unfortunately for the use that I expected, the cons are the majority but surely they can make many out there happy.
Greetings
