Solid interface
dbdb, 11.06.2018
Does precisely what it claims. If I was in a less good mood, I might knock an overall star off. The routing isn't quite as good as MOTU's yet ? you can't filter MIDI messages depending on their source port, but you can do pretty much everything else. The macOS apps aren't so lovely either - for a start, there's two of them, the new pretty one with hardly any features, and the ugly old one where you can get to everything - but neither are that great. They do, however, get the job done.

Overall though, very good. Works off very little (USB-bus-provided) power, starts up very quickly, no issues. Lovely job.

Little brother of the MIDI4 + and just as well
microbug, 12.08.2018
The MIO4 is, you can see it too, the little brother of the MIDI4 +, which has been around for a while (and which one I own).
Differences to the MIDI4 + are the following:
- the third USB device port on the front is missing
- no audio passthru
- the lighning cable for iOS devices does not work with it (but it's not included)
- Power supply is not included, but connection available

But you can supply the MIO4 via USB with voltage, but only at the rear port.
The remaining stuff is identical to the MIDI4 +:
- USB host port for maxinal 8 devices, assuming an active hub and the devices are classcompliant. Of course, this is only USB MIDI devices. However, these are also supplied with voltage, especially when the MIO4 is connected to the power supply. Especially with devices like the Arturia BeatStep Pro, this is very advantageous, as you only need a USB cable for MIDI in / out and voltage.
- 4 DIN MIDI port pairs
- two USB device ports for connecting two computers or a computer and a tablet at the same time. Note: With a USB cable and the USB Lightning Camera Adapter (formerly called CCK), it also runs on the iPad and iPhone, just not being loaded and the digital audio not ground through - that's just the MIDI4 +.
- Network socket for RTP-MIDI. Since the firmware 2.0, the interfaces can also initiate RTP-MIDI, so you can remotely control a standalone MIO4 or even MIDI4 + from a computer in the network, even setting with the software goes through this network connection - and all without audible delay!
All ports can be routed to each other, the device can merge (although this is not mentioned separately), redefine channels and also filter. Unfortunately it does not have its own memory, otherwise you would have a modern MIDI patchbay. So to change the configuration, you always have to try the software on Mac, PC or iOS, now there's even a third-party configurator for Linux.

You can even cascade several interfaces via the USB host port, unfortunately since the firmware 2.0, a cascaded iconnectivity interface is no longer displayed when selecting the device when starting the software, so if you want to set the second interface, you have to change it. The error is currently (8/18) synonymous with the 2.03 still available, despite being reported since 2.0.
Otherwise, the MIO4, just like the big brother MIDI4 +, does its job perfectly with me here, even MIDI Sysex, with which many interfaces have problems, is no problem.
The MIO4 also runs, thanks to Classcompliant, on older Macs, eg on a Powerbook G4 under OSX Tiger. For Windows there is now an optional driver that you can download from the manufacturer, which is also very stable.
So if you are looking for a stable, hassle-free multi-port MIDI interface, then the MIO4 is highly recommended!
